So I've seen this question posted in the past but with the way technology changed I figured I'd start a fresh thread. Basically we are looking for a new camcorder. first off, I have no real interest or knowledge in electronic gadgets (cameras, computers etc) but after some looking around I think I've narrowed it down to wanting something high Definition-flash memory and in the $300-400 range. This one has kinda caught my eye, any thoughts or suggestions of others to look at? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon+-...lack/9751908.p?id=1218167393367&skuId=9751908
Try newegg or some other site, try to steer clear of best buy. They have gone way downhill in the past 2 years. Also check peoples reviews, newegg usually has alot of people that review the products. Wich is very helpful when trying to decide on electronics.
I have a canon vixia and I like it. They all have pretty good optical zoom. The only downsides to that price range are smaller sensor size (picture quality) and smaller internal memory. In all honesty, you probably won't notice the difference in picture quality. It will still be many times better than any non-HD camera. That specific one has 8GB internal memory. If you spend an extra $100 you can get the HF-M31, which has 32GB of internal memory. They both have memory card slots so you could add a memory card later if 8 or 32GB wasn't enough. Getting the video off the camera and then editing it or viewing it with 3rd party software is kind of a pain, but it can be done. I imagine most HD cameras use a similar process though.
Yeah I've been checking some other online sites, I figured BB would give me the more common models to start shopping for. I'll have to check into the memory thing with the increased internal vs. adding a card(Is it silly to add a card for an event and save it on there +the computer?) I know we wouldn't really be recording anything at great length just a few minutes here and there. It's the whole getting the video off, viewing, editing thing that kinda scares me. As I stated earlier I'm not really into the whole computer thing.
