You are now a vendor, as you dont need to see off topic and other things of that nature.

Yes, vendor accounts can only see certain forums. The idea is to keep the vendors accounts straight and minimize their ability to post all day/everyday in non-vendor related forums such as off-topic.

A quick run down of the threads a vendor can see/post in...

    MNSOC Vendor - Yes
    FS - Yes
    Vendor FS - Yes
    Scammer - Yes

Vendors should already have 2 accounts. They are the only ones (besides administrators) who are allowed to do that. There is a vendor acct that all the prices and info about the vendor are under, and then they should have their own separate accts and usernames for their own purpose. Think of it like ... would you want GS (just an example) going into OT and calling everyone names? It makes the company look better to have this sort of consistency.

Bilk is right, this one IS important. It also makes it a lot easier for customers to find vendor sales, since they can only post sales and announcements, people don't have to sift through all their OT posts when they actually do use search. :)

SubieDG- If you were on our side of the fence and if you were around MNSubaru for any length of time you would know why this was implemented.

Too many times, too many cases where vendor accounts became mostly personal accounts/posting more for personal reasons than anything to do with their company. It's easier for us to manage and to be honest, it helps the vendors from posting something on a personal level that could have a negative impact on their business.

and like I posted in the other thread, now that I have more time I can start implementing some of the other changes to the vendor accounts, which will include larger sigs and a small banner. I just need to work out the details and get them into the system.

ok so how are vendors suppose to see member questions and reply to them(like in the general and tech forums)? We are part of tons and tons of forums and i've never seen anything like this. we rarely post on here so really we dont care that much..the rule just doesnt make sense.

also vendors like minnetonka subaru, they dont have a vendor name as they use personal names to talk business so that means they get to respond to customers questions or comment in any thread. what about this?

Why step in on this? Shouldnt it be up to a company to publicly display themselves in an appropriate manner? If a company is ran by jackasses, I would like to know.

I care because mnsoc is a social network. Restricting anybody, especially vendors, from threads is just silly.

^ I can see where you're going with this, but keep in mind that you represent a large corporate dealership. The only person who should have a "vendor" account for morries subaru is Morrie himself, and then he would need a second account to post in off topic n such?

This rule affects ALL of the members by restricting certain members from posting, but more directly affects vendors. I fail to see the logic behind this decision/rule change.

You don't see the reasoning because it was based on an issue that was taken care of before people saw it. Not that it really is any of your business or anything, but we had a vendor posting OT stuff under his vendor name. That is not what the vendor accts are for.

Personally, I don't see why it's a big deal. If you want to see the FS sections as a vendor, log in as vendor. It takes literally 10 seconds, maybe less, to log out and log back in with another username. If you want to post in the other threads then just use your normal name. Why does everyone here need to always make such a big deal out of things like this?

Those certain members you speak of are Vendor accounts, and to have a Vendor account you have to have a regular member account. The only thing people should be doing while logged in as a vendor is doing vendor related things. Adding vendor sale threads, editing them, sending PMs to customer questions, etc...

That's it. That's how it is. Those are the rules. Now, I suggest this whining stops before I set fire to this entire thread and any threads within shouting distance. Seriously.

Well, originally, Justin was the one that wanted vendor accounts, so he could have a business account and a user account. That is what we did. That is what we are doing for everyone. The vendor account will be had for conducting business, and you can have a personal account for your standard BS. Again, not a big deal. This a work in progress and we are working out the kinks as we go.

This isn't a democracy, you do not have any rights to anything. You have the privledge to post on a forum that has been provided to you free of charge. Those that have provided you this luxury also set rules and guidelines for you to follow. If you decide you don't like the rules on this free forum you've been provided, you have the right to leave and start your own forum where people can do and say whatever they want. And that can be YOUR problem.

So why do I have so many posts then? I got small tittayz.

Also - these kind of threads are annoying. I see that there are new posts, then I click into them and I'm stuck reading this crap. Snowbum - this doesn't even concern you, why are you whining? And Justin - you have another account, this is just making sure you only use your BUSINESS account for business, and your personal acct for personal. That's much easier for the rest of us.
I for one had a hard time when I'd PM a vendor and sometimes they'd answer on their personal acct, others they'd answer on the business acct.

bad apples should get thrown out,

I'm kinda thinking this seems alittle bit of overkill, kinda sounds personal.

anyway, there may be a greater logic I am unaware of, but it seems to me most of the kids are playing by the rules, the people that should suffer are those that are breeching our established norms.

    just my $.02 .

Once everything is done, the vendor account will be allowed to have larger sigs and banners. I know that as soon as those larger sigs and banners start getting posted all over the forums and in threads tht they don't need to be in, we will have another "why do the vendors have banners" thread and we can re-hash the same complaints all over again. The vendor account is for selling stuff. So the vendor account will then have access to the FS forums and the event forum incase they are helping sponsor a event. And for the new people, it will help direct them to the proper vendor account so they know who to PM for parts. As it is, some of the vendor account do not answer their vendor account pm's, and then the users have no idea what is going on.

The greater logic I speak of. Russ, you know human nature, should start a thread

"why is the sky blue?" and we could debate how unfair it is that it is not CGM, or San Remo Red, to match our cars....

    I catch your drift.:)

One Hundred Bazillion times THIS ^^

One vendor asks a question about it, you know, since it affects him. And then we get a rush of "woe is me, they made a rule, the sky is falling, freedom of speech" from the unaffected peanut gallery. Is there some sort of USB device that everyone has that I don't, one that when a rule is added to a forum you frequent, it sprays salt water and perfume directly into your eyes and paddles your ass beet red, then immediately logs you into the forum to make posts?

FWIW, I agree with the admins and moderators. Vendor accounts should not be posting in off-topic and such. However, something might come up in an off-topic thread that they can respond to via PM, or posting a thread in a topic they can post in. They should be able to read the whole site.

Side note: can it be set up that they choose which account to reply from when they are submitting a reply?

Actually, a lot of us "take criticism with hostility" around here because everything we do to try to improve the site is a problem. Someone always bitches. Always. Even if it DOES improve the site. So, with that said, can you blame us for being hostile?

Why do you criticize what doesn't affect you? Why? Why do you feel the need to come in here and get all righteous about something that will not change the way you view and use this site on a daily basis? I take criticism when it is constructive and comes from a knowledgable source. But your are just whining about rules that don't concern you. Rules that have a reason behind them. And the second you started talking about your rights on this forum, I instantly put you in the garbage bin as far as intelligence goes.
Trust me, if I had a problem with you criticising us, I'd have just banned you. Instead what I do is belittle and demean you for it because that is what you do with foolishness and self-martyrs.
THIS DOESN'T AFFECT YOU. SO SHUT THE **** UP ABOUT IT AND MOVE ON. KTHX.
