I think I may have it on both rears on my sti. I hear these slight clunks when I go over any bump or crack in the road. I don't know what to think.

    Help?!

How many miles? I would just bring it to the dealership they should be aware of this issue and they will most likely fix it for ya. I had it on one side and the dealership (BP Subaru) replaced both rears.

the best way I can explain it to you is this way....

I think I may have it on both rears on my sti. I hear these slight clunks when I go over any bump or crack in the road. I don't know what to think.

sorry couldnt resist... am tired and ready for sleep...

quite a few people around the intraweb have had issues with rear struts in STi's... as suggested take it back to a dealership and complain er explain your issue... I am surprised if there isnt a recall on this issue....

if you have not done springs, swaybars, endlinks etc.. the struts will get replaced under warranty.

    call make a service apointment.
they probobly wont have them in stock.
mine took like 3 weeks iirc.

I would say the clunk is probably coming from sway bar links.

I'm thinking top hats or struts. I've had both go bad on me multiple times. Bring it to the dealership if you are still under warranty.

No it's cool. I just wasn't sure if the clunky strut syndrome was a loud clunk of something not so lourd like in my situation. Well I guess now I know.

    sti's blow struts.

stock swaybar's/links really are not know for having problems.

the struts, will clump at low speeds, when going over expansion cracks, etc.
if you jack it up once, it will go away for a couple three days.

    very common.
when mine go out again i'll swap over to some dead sexy jdm coilovers that don't even come with instructions, so i will have to hire some japaneese guy to translate an obscure taka harawaka website.
I'll put the stockers on a full rally spec dunebuggy frame with a wrx engine, sparco seats, twin td04's, a kubota hsd trannie, big huge baja tires and one of those beer kegs for a gas tank...

why am i telling you this?
who knows, but it's a bitchin idea and i'm super pumped about it.

I'm bringing my car in tonight to have it checked, and fixed if the problem will be covered by warranty. I'm assuming that they will do some of the work through the trunk as the tech advised me to empty my trunk.

Question is, I have a sub/amp/cap back there and don't know **** about electronics. What's the safe way to disconnect all of these things? I know the car should be off, but what else should I do? Should I just wrap electrical tape around the open wires?

^^^ there is no need for them to even open the trunk to do a strut swap. Though if you do clear everything out that will rule out the possiblilty that there is something else loose back there causing your problem. I don't know much about electronics either, but I imagine if you disconnect the neg. battery terminal you should be covered. Electrical tape for the wires is fine, even better would be the little twist-on plastic wire caps.

They do need to remove the rear seat, so you should make sure that area is pretty well cleared out.

I fixed my clunkin noises. it came all 4 struts around (located on top hats). what I notice is that my strut bolts were loose. as I tight all the 4 strut bolts with the impact, the noises never came back.
