Ok, so i got pulled over yet again... long story shot i was pulled over for wreckless driving and given a seatbelt violation only. the officer (state trooper) told me my lap belt on my harness was not enough, however; EP, Minnetonka, Hopkins and a Blue Earth County officers have all told me it is and that i wouldn't be required to wear the shoulder harnesses. so fast forward to today when i drag my ass down to Mankato at 8 in the morning, she tells me there are no officers around that can define the stature and that i can talk to a judge but its at the officers descression and wont be dropped. I already paid the damn ticket but i am still pissed that they have screwed me over yet again in my honest opinion. can someone please shed some light on just what the stature says about this crock of crap?
Seems pretty clear to me, why wouldn't you want to wear the seatbelt as it is designed to be used? I suspect if your car was originally made with only a lap belt, you'd be ok as far as the law goes, but it sounds like you have to wear your seatbelt as it was designed to be used. http://www.dps.state.mn.us/ots/Laws_Legislation/seat_belts_law.asp
alright, so i had cops lie to me and the trooper played it by the books. fair enough i guess. and Tommy, we will figure it out, no worries
Wait a minute... So you got pulled over for a reckless and you get off with a minor seatbelt ticket?? What the hell?!
yeah, i was doing some line to line and an undercover pulled a quick U-turn and snagged me. i am not asking for any damn sympathy, i just wanted to know what the hell i need to do, if i dont HAVE to wear the shoulder belts i dont want to, they are pretty uncomfortable when my ass is getting tossed in the air driving down the freeway.
yeah doesnt exactly leave any give, and wearing the shoulder harnesses honestly sucks when the rear end of the wagon bucks up on the air, pinches the **** out of my shoulders and back. thats the only reason i dont always wear the shoulder harnesses, i am one of the ones who always buckles up and makes my passengers do the same
Do you still have the factory belt in the car? Or are you using a race harness? I ask because you keep saying shoulder beltS. It sounds like by the letter of the law a harness wouldn't be legal, but you might stand a better chance if you were using it as designed. Best bet is probably to use the original seatbelt on the streets.
the sole purpose of a judge is to interpret the law. IF what the judge says goes against what the officer did, it should all be over with then and there.
Aren't Schroth harnesses the only DOT legal ones ? Any other brand isn't legal for the streets anyway, even if you do wear the shoulder straps. If having the shoulder straps tight bugs you so much, why not keep them real loose so it at least looks like you're wearing them ? Still won't do you much good in a crash, though. Stuart.
i unfortunately lost my belt clip (down by the seat portion) when i sold the stock seat to Ken like an idiot, i am working on getting a stock seat again just so i can use stock belts and not beat the crap out of my body all winter. so yeah, harness right now as i am missing part of the belt.
Ken + t and i think i still have your latch. Also still have the seat and rails minus the two rear mounting points.
well..woudl you have intrest in selling said objects back? sorry, I knew it was Kent, i either forgot the T or mistyped. my bad
Yeah you better be, i kill over that mistake... often... ok maybe not Uh im going to the shop shortly ill check to see if i used my latch or yours and give you a call.
wait, what year is your car curly? i still have all my stock wagon belts, seats and stuff but it's off a 94 L
Yes, you probably did, but like I said, it's quite hard to tell right now ... the driver's seat is still in there. but it wouldn't fit his car anyway. so
Get the seat belt installed correctly and use it. Kanye wasn't too cool for the safety belt and look at him!:roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:
