I read a couple posts from earlier this year about struts going bad and getting replaced under warranty. Lately, I get a clunking noise every once in a while from the drivers side rear. I put on my winter tires yesterday and saw this. I'm guessing that the strut is bad. Anyone for Mntka or BP Subaru want to replace them under warranty? Need to do it soon, not much warranty left. The car is an 02 and is all stock. The first picture is the pass side, the rusty one is the drivers side.

Probably not, since it's an 02. Struts do eventually wear out and fail and are considered wear items, unless a problem causes them to fail very quickly.

Unless you have an extended warranty, you are SOL. Those would only be covered under the 3-year/36k mile warranty.

The only strutproblem suabru fixes due to their error occurs only on STi's. That's jsut a screwed up crapped out strut, I don't think anyone would warranty if its a 2002 way out of warranty for a wear item like that. How many miles does the car have?

    A few more than 36K.

If the sound is coming from the strut itself, you're better off using your time to invest in a new set of struts. If the sound is coming from a non-wear item (such as the frame), then bring it in and have Subaru look at it.
