Basically, I'm curious if those of you with the best knowledge about different modifications or technical stuff could start making generic threads dedicated to different aspects of our vehicles? A thread for suspension, one for exhaust, others for cold-air intake/ecu/turbos/etc. Maybe something with generally agreed-upon "entry-level" to "high performance" options for those of us who aren't really very familiar with these things (me definitely being one of them)? I hate to be one of those who will go "hey guys i want new suspension and i want to know what you think!" and then you have to post for the 100th time about the suspension you best like (not pointing fingers by the way!) If there already are a few specific threads like this, maybe they should be stickied and and updated instead of creating completely new ones. It's just an idea, and I think it would be helpful in a subforum like this. I understand there are always many, many different opinions on all of these modifications, but I have a feeling a general consensus can be reached for most of these things. If this is a dumb idea just tell me to go blow it out my ass. I'll leave you a picture too as a sign of my appreciation.
you might want to start looking here if you haven't already. http://mnsubaru.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=36
Can we get some of those stickies in the Tech section for us noobs updated? Some kinda dropped off w/o finishing all they set out to do. Or maybe, a monthly theme - it sounds really lame, I know - but look how many suspension/alignment threads there have been in the last week. I haven't even posted my alignment questions yet: I keep hoping they'll get covered with all the others in here. And look how many tire threads there were last month. My .02
Well sure but someone has to step up and write them. We are always looking for additions to current threads or new ones.
if you want tech...go to nasioc. and before all of you nasioc haters chime in about its just abunch of bitching at eachother...yes there is some of that but nasioc has more useful information about subaru than anywhere else in the world imo.
NASIOC rocks. No complaints there from me. But it is also nice to have more than one source for information. Sometimes it is a second opinion, sometimes it is just a different way of saying the same thing, sometimes it is pointing out that a given set-up is situation dependent. Often - but not always - you can find that on NASIOC. However, local-specific info can also be really nice. As an example, I think I read somewhere on MnSubaru that coilovers may not be the best idea in a MN winter. Maybe I remember wrong, but I am only using it as an example. That information is harder to find on an all North America site. Dirty Impreza is another good site, but somewhat geographically challenged for, in this case, hard winter information. There are links to NASIOC Tech threads in the MnSubaru Tech threads. Awesome. And putting experience onto a thread is a lot of work. But it is appreciated by those of us who don't yet have that experience; and those who disagree with it, show us another way to see the topic (ideally). To use an analogy: stew has many ingredients. Some need to cook together, some need to remain individual; but they all make up a single stew. Different people make the same kind of stew differently. Emphasizing certain ingredients or using different ingredients for specific results. Sometimes you might call one stew better or worse than another; sometimes you just call it different. But if the stew never leaves the stove nobody benefits from it. Sorry for the long post. MnSubaru rocks. Just hoping to get a little more of the knowledge on here where it can be more easily accessed. Thanks! /rant off Christopher
