i was stopping at the stop light, the car suddenly died , and i couldn't start it up. so i kept starting the car, the car didnt start up, the fuel guage went down to empty and temperature went to H. so i let the car sat for 30 sec to 1 min, it fired up again....after i got home, i let the car run, the CEL went on for half second, the car died for like half second, then the engine run again...i kept the car running. it seems fun now...
so can anyone help me here please!!??

Get somebody to read out your diagnostic codes with an accessPort or openECU stuff.

+1 to that. My 02 had a bad ecu that kept saying that my 3rd cylinder wasn't firing. Was an error in the programming and they swapped it out for a yellow 02 ecu that was for sale on their lot in Kansas City. No problem since. I wonder if it could be a bug like i had b/c of the way it would restart and seem fine for a minute or two and then would shudder and die again. Were the 02 wrx's subject to a change in the ecu that created these issues in ecu's on 02's? Don't know, but i wish you the best on your fix. Computer should let you know for sure though!:)

Computer diag. right away. Only like 40 bucks and you don't want to be stuck on 694 or something when it is -20 degrees! Mine broke down in an ice storm on the highway in kansas city, miss. Don't let that be you if you've got the heads up that something is wrong. Could also cause further damage if you let it go! Like i said "good luck" and hopefully yours isn't the bad ecu, unless its under warranty like mine WAS!:)

great idea. Might not be a bad idea to also disconnect the battery and reset the ecu after pulling the codes.

They will do that there. Write the codes down and afterwards tell them to clear it. Post the codes here for further diagnosis.

I highly doubt it is your ecu.

I would be more concerned about your brakes and powersteering being out than a little bit of frost bite, ;)

You guys should know that due to his previous concerns and posts we looked at his car recently, here's what I found.

I checked all IC hoses/ inlet pipe and hoses for leaks. I also removed his HKS bov and replaced it with his stock bov. Initially we could tell there was a leak on one of the hoses and the inlet pipe/turbo clamp was very loose...practically just sitting there on the pipe. His Y pipe is fine, gaskets fine, all connections tight.

I did advise that ideally he should eventually replace his inlet pipe. Looks like the previous owner may have played with the inlet pipe/turbo connection.(due to a small crack located under the clamp and the clamp itself being loose.) ...should be okay for now since it's under the clamp and sealed. :(

Still may have leak. i could only dig in so deep. His engine feels smooth during a test drive (limited throttle due to clutch), but still a very slight and intermittent hiss coming from the TB area which leads me to believe it needs more attention.

Not to mention his clutch is unfortunately toast

His car could really benefit from a serious diagnosis from a real mechanic...anyone want to help him?

check that one grounding part next to the coilpack. It could be possible that you have some loose grounding somewhere. How you explained it sounds just like my problem when my car was like that.

Well what MY is your car?

oh just for reference, if the car stalls, it'll never start up right away, always wait 10-20 secs before making another attempt to start it up again.

Not to sounds like a ass, but you really should bring your car into a qualified tech to have it checked out. Cuz if I had as many problems with my car as you do, I would sell it. You constantly have some sort of problem, but it never sounds like you get any of them fixed. These all could be related to each other, but you need to have someone look at the car. The post above mine is a perfect example. The coil packs on a 02 wrx are on the plugs, not the top of the intake maniold. That is the older/non turbo cars.

+1 to Russ! When i mentioned the 40 dollar diag. earlier, i was speaking of the subie dealership. I believe it was 40 when i had mine done. driftin240 would probably be able to give you a more accurate quote. They will check it regardless to the cel being on. Plus who better to tell you what's wrong w/your car than a lics. subaru technician!!:)

I was gonna have my car taken to the ripoffship to look at my car and they said just to look at it is gonna be $100. Then whatever they do after that will cost me for the parts and labor.

just cause the cell isnt on doesnt mean that there isnt a code stored... there just isnt HARD code... and a lot of stores are stopping there toy boy diagnositcs cause they are finding that 7 out of 10 say it is an 02 sensor so they sell parts, and yes 02 sensors arent cheap... that was coming from a parts store rep...

I can't agree more....and this couldn't be happening to a nicer guy. It's a real bummer. Kin is super cool and has good intentions, but it boils down costs of repairs.

There are people on the board that can help out, but you need to ASK someone. Everytime you just post about the next problem, but you never get the first on fixed. Talk to Driftin240, Bikerboy, wrxboy2003, they all have shops or some place to help you out.

I would guess that if you had some sort of faulty connection that it would make your Temp gauge go to hot, and the fuel gauge go to empty. Normally when your car stalls it will cause a CEL if the vehicle is moving. Was the CEL flashing or was it on solid?

If you make it to firestone tomorrow, I'm sure someone could bring their ap or some sort of scan tool. You could also just run to any local auto parts place, they all have them, and you can use them for free. In many cases it helps them sell parts, so they dont mind.

I'd guess your idle problem is a dirty idle air controller, mine was dirty, bikerboy recommended I clean it out. I did and now the car runs great. I also found a few vaccuum leaks in the process so im not sure %100 that it was the problem, but it sure cant hurt, and its FREE to do.

Someone on here has got to have the link. I dont. I do know it was on nasioc though.
