So I have been subscribing to "Modified" and "Super Street" for the past four years now and I think it time to move on. Yesterday I received the current issue of "Super Street" and well let me just say that I got "Honda Tuning" instead, now I know it was the "Honda issue" but thats not what I want. I want to open a magazine and read about real life people with real life cars, not ultra expensive no one can touch builds and not issues full of Honda's.

That is why I liked "Modified" for the most part, but now that I haven't received an issue in 2 months and I know I should have they have me a little upset.

I'm not sure what else to subscribe to ... "Sport Compact Car" makes a good magazine so does "DSport" and "Subie Sport" but I don't know if there are any others out there that would do the trick.

Help me out guys what are your opinions on the sport compact magazines?

My opinion is that you are a ricer if you subscribe to any of that ****. About the only magazine that is worth a damn is Grassroots Motorsports.

Want to see real life cars? Look at internet forums.

They do a tech session in every magazine, things like meth/water injection, tranny tech, turbo tech, suspension tech, etc.

Subiesport is rife with misinformation, poor reporting, ****ty photographs, and fanboy-reporting. The only good thing about Subiesport is that a normal person can get their car featured in it. I know two normal people that took some decent photographs, sent in a write-up, and got published. Both of their articles had been re-edited and had errors (errors created by the staff of Subiesport) but these were your normal, non-sponsored, well-executed Stage II mods kind of guys.

I read SCC when I fly on the aeroplane. That's about it.

I would take each of those articles and compare it with some of the more knowledgeable folks on internet forums.

Tim, if you like tech write-ups on a variety of vehicles you might want to check out Turbo. Sure, they're just another Primedia clone-mag but they don't make me want to choke myself with a snarky plunger when I read them.

    There. Or here. Sometimes both.
I've been a subscriber to Car and Driver for about 10 years. I enjoy it a lot.

Granted, it's not a tuner magazine...

"Car and Driver" is my least favorite! The only one of those I can stand is Motor Trend.

Modified is a good mag. I subscribe to Subiesport and am looking into DSport. Subiesport is still a growing magazine, so its not all the great yet, but it's building in cars and stories etc.

I used to be into SS and SCC, but that was in my Honda days. Subarus are usually scarce in those mags. Lame

the things they cover in that mag are just funny. really. how to put an exhaust on your car. it proves that only doing i/h/e on your NA4cyl isnt adding skeet for power

Oh God, that magazine is a turd! The writing is terrible and dense, as if they copied the press release verbatim. And I know they are full of crap when they rate a capsizing Camry as a better driver's car than an Accord. Puh-lease! The only thing MT does better is have outrageous tests of 1000+hp cars and lots of pics. But a Figure 8 as a handling test? They should just drive an oval like Nascar!

C&D is still the best, even if they fired Brock Yates and gave their magazine the Asstek treatment. Mustard and ketchup belong on hot dogs...

My opinion is pretty much worthless. butt,

SCC has gotten smaller and smaller, with content that host decreased in value.

C&D as well as Motortrend? pretty much the same.

I'm retarded, but SCC is soooo short compared to what is used to be.

I currently subscribe to SCC, GRM and SubieSport.

Yes, SCC has gone down the pan a little in the last couple of years, but at least it does try to focus on the cars. And they do seem to be trying to bring it back up to what it was in the good old days. I'd like to see them succeed, so I'm keeping my subscription going for now.

GRM is utterly fantastic. If you haven't read one yet, B&N carries it on the shelf. Go ahead and treat yourself.

SubieSport is a fun mag for Subaru fans. If you're not a fan, you're probably not going to find much to like. I have all the issues from #1 onwards, and have been subscribed since issue #3. I have been compelled to write to the editors a couple of times to lambast them on their crappy spelling/grammar, and the fact that some of the articles just stop mid-word, but it doesn't seem to change.

Other ones I buy from time to time as the mood strikes or if there is an article of particular interest: Top Gear Magazine, HCI, Turbo, Modified Mag, Project Car Magazine and Banzai.

I tend to avoid Super Street like the plague. If they have an interesting Subaru feature car, I'll read the article in the store, then buy something else.

+1 for Playboy, too. Good suggestion, Taras.

    Stuart.

I've never even heard of GRM, nor have I seen it at Barnes and Noble.

**EDIT:: If you go to the GRM website, there is a free trial issue!! Nice! Ordered mine
