If there is anyone up here that is interested in these, I have been building them for the past year and a half. I'm on my second system in my car, and have build a few others for friends, and clients. I'd be more than happy to help anyone out with these.

Theres the link to see my system.

I highly recomend building your own system. The markup on these is worse than car stereo stuff.

EDIT: Unfortunately my system was built before that Subaru bezzel came out :(

That was Awesome! I like the dual display.
I am thinking on going a step a step farther. Blue tooth, GPS, WiFi and a few other little things.

I have an actual qestion too. I have been thinking that the arm rest would make a good hiding location for a USB DVD Drive. Have you tried that?

I like the dual battery idea with an isolator, but I think for my initial use I will get a DC-DC logic power supply like. I know it is marked up a lot but I will how it goes.

The thing you linked to is not a power supply btw. It's an ATX power controller (startup/shutdown and power conditioning) You still need a power supply. I personally like the Opus products.

I looked at putting my DVD in there, but I use it for other stuff. At the moment it's actually housing my cell phone. (cell based internet) (there's also a USB WiFi card for when I'm near an AP) and I just have the DVD drive wedged between the center console and the passenger seat.

I'm building a car computer as we speak. Travla C134 case, Epia SP13000 MB, DVD rom, etc all in one tiny little form factor.

Then the In Dash Pop-up touchpad VGA LCD with TV tuner.

Then USB to serial adapters(for OBD II and UTEC logging), USB Wifi, USB GPS, and wireless Keyboard.

Still need to find a head unit and install everything. I'm not satisfied with a front end just yet, but there are lots of options. I'm thinking Linux right now as an OS.

Oh yeah, it ain't cheap. I could of cut a few corners, but not many, I got pretty good deals on almost everything I've bought and am already over 1k sans head unit. Tha'ts a helluva lot considering you could get one state of the art PC for that moola.

with that screen, see if you can find out if it was a first run or not. The first run of those had major problems with the TS panel that was used. Also, I don't know if it was changed, but the first run also made some of the LED's stay lit up 24/7. Which IMHO screams "STEAL ME" If yours is one of those, Here are links for fixes.

    1. "Changing a touch screen panel"

    2. "Disabling the power and eject buttons and clock lights"

Also, what are the rest of the specs of the machine you're building. like what PSU are you using, and which GPS mouse did you choose, RAM, HDD, etc...?

And did you buy the whole thing from caseoutlet as a built system? If so thats why it's so expensive. I rolled in around $1300 with two screens, P4 2.8 GHz, Migrus M4-845Q Mobo, 512 meg ram, 120 gig Maxtor HDD, O.pus (it won't let me say it. It's just a power supply. Silly swear filters)150, DVD/CD-RW, DVD external USB housing, Travla C-158, BU-353 GPS mouse, and all the misc. cables.

I don't know if it's a first run or not, but it is lit up 24/7, I'll either disable them or do the dimming trick. I'm hoping the touchscreen doesn't go, but if it does I'll deal. It's hard finding in dash motorized that support VGA.

I ordered the case, M1-ATX psu(supposedly good for 75 watts), board, and 512 ultra compact(more like ultra expensive) ram thru Caseoutlet. I ordered the DVD-rw, 40 gb HDD, adapters, etc thru geeks.com. I ended up going with an EBay GPS puck made by Holux. I've never heard of them, but they have drivers for both Windows and Linux, oh and it's really cheap.

Your system clearly kicks all sorts of ass, especially compared to mine, but I was looking for a compact, quiet, go anywhere system that I could pop out of the car easily if I wanted.

Everything is looking good on the bench(powers up, interfaces, etc), just have to dig in and do the install to the car. Like I said, I'm still searching for a front end and a stable OS. How has XP been treating you in a car setting? The one thing that's really keeping me away is the boot time.

    Complete specs thus far:
Epia SP13000 motherboard running at 1300 Mhz, 512 MB RAM, 40 Gb HDD, CD/DVD-rw, Travla C134 case with M1-ATX PSU, 2 USB->serial adapters(one for OBD, one for UTEC), USB GPS, USB 802.11G WiFi adapter, USB cordless keyboard/mouse, 4 port USB hub.

If you do have one of the ones with a bad TS, you can order a new panel from Armen at Digital World Wide. They're a great site. Sometimes a bit hard to get a hold of, but always come through, and stand behind their stuff.

    http://www.digitalww.com/

If you're looking for another motorized in dash unit ever, they are usually ahead of the pack by 2 months or so. He was the first to bring the screen that you have over to the US. (Thats how I know bout the problems. I got one of the first run units. The TS just refused to hold calibration, and would go all psycho)

XP has been treating me fine. I use it with FrodoPlayer and Freedrive (a Destinator 3 frontend gps program). I deal with the boot time, because reality is that it's not that long. At least on my system. Usually for that first minute or so I'm more concentrated on getting out of my parking spot, and getting started on the road. The only time that it really ticks me off is when I'm trying to power it up to show someone.

Holux makes a good unit. The two most popular seem to be Holux and USGlobalSat. My first unit was a Holux, but it died when I was taking it out of my old car. (I only switched to USGlobalSat cuz I could get the new SiRfStar III chipset)

If you'd like a hand installing it I'd be more than happy to help out. Let me know
