A couple weeks ago my wife and I had our second kiddo. :D That leaves me with two car seats in the back of my GD sti. I have longer legs and drive with my seat pretty far back., which causes trouble fitting both a rear and forward facing child seat in the back (rear - passenger side, forward - driver side). My wife has an 09' FXT and everything fits fine but it's an auto and not the performance I'd prefer. Does anyone have a GR WRX/STI with two child seats in the back and the driver's seat extending all the way back? I'm trying to decide if I should strap one to the wing or get a slightly larger vehicle. If anyone is in the St Paul area and wouldn't mind me strapping a couple seats in the back, I would be greatly appreciative.

Strap your kid to the wing? :)

So do you have an 08+ WRX/STI? I have a 3 year old and now a 2 week old. The seat for the 3 year old fits fine, but the leg room is an issue behind my seat.

phi11, based off of your avatar you have a bug eye. Where is your seat located? When my 3 year old was in the center, his legs were hitting me in my arm. To give him enough space while sitting behind me would be fairly uncomfortable for both of us. I have a feeling either I need to suck it up or get a bigger (non-impreza) ride.

yeah, the wife has the bugeye, seat goes in the middle
(drivers seat is back all the way, and my knees hit the dash)
I have a BD legacy, and today I turned the car seat to front facing
and the little guy is going to run out of room fast.
we're looking for a 3rd of 4th gen legacy wagon.

I have two SG forester XT's (both 5 spd) and an 04 sti, the foresters are almost identical to the sti in terms of car seat room, although it is easier to load / unload the kid. I know the SH (08 and up) foresters are bigger, but I think your only option is an 08 in 5 speed. One of my foresters has all the sti engine bits and wrx suspension so it suits me just fine from a performance standpoint, I do wish it was an 08 though. Have you tried a legacy at all?

I haven't tried a Legacy but will definitely look at them. I'll do a little fit testing with the STI, find a Forester in the 08+ range and then check out the LGT. Thanks!

Post up how the legacy compares, I am really curious. Also, what seats do you have? I am switching my infant seat out for a britax marathon convertible (rear facing) this weekend, it seemed to fit alright when I did a quick test fit at babies r us.. but I only have one seat now back there

We currently have the Britax Marathon and then a Graco rear facing child seat. I will let you know about the Legacy...

There is more than a little truth to this. Not for just one kid, but once you've got a couple, and they have friends, or you have other family you want to be able to bring along, or you want to go on vacation, or . . .

Anyhow, unless your kids are midgets and you use the smallest child seats you can, the GD isn't going to cut it. From direct experience.

Clearly you don't have to have the front seats all the way back to avoid eating your knees Nate. There is literally no way either my 6yr old or 2yr old could fit behind me in an Impreza.

But they've got about 24" of legroom in my Sienna. Can't even kick the backs of the seats.

I think if I ever go the van route it may be full size. If I'm ever in the dog house because of the cost of modifications, there would be a bed in back that I could sleep on which is probably bigger than my couch. ;)

The tribeca fits the son's Recaro without issue, but we're foreward facing now.

Forester is based on an impreza chassis. So it's not any longer. Really the only way to get more distance between the dash and back seat is to jump to a legacy chassis.

I think with the switch to multilink rear suspension ('00 for the legacy, and '08 in the impreza), the back seat got pushed back a bit compared to the MacPherson versions since there's no strut tower. So you might gain a bit in the '08+ compared to the GD.

I am 6ft1in tall.. My seat was always back... Up until 6mths ago I had my forester (little more room) and I would have a child seat (same one we used for them as babies as they grow to 3-4yr olds) and 2 full sized booster seats... And remember my kids are 7, 6, 5 and almost 3...

Only reason I sold the Foz is I have 6 in my family!!! It seated 5.

Forester and Impreza still share the same platform with the same 103.1in wheelbase. If the seats fit in the Forester, they should fit the same in a GR.
