Not quite sure if this is the place to post this, so lets see where this goes, eh? :ugh: Just wondering if anyone has found a deck that matches the green scheme of the dash, can play MP3 cds, and has outputs for front and rear, as well as sub? I'm not going for 'blow out my trunk' loud, I just want a good deck, and since the box and amp I have wont fit in the Miata, I may as well put it to use. Might even amp the speakers, though that would be at a future time methinks. I've been trying to find a not horrible looking deck lately, and the only one that comes to mind is the Eclipse CD4000 that I had in the Miata prior to it being stolen (couldn't remove the face on that model), you could change the face as well as the buttons colors.
Alpines used to lean towards green displays, maybe a good starting point? Personally I've got a JVC head unit with an internal HD tuner and an integrated iPod controller that I routed into the glovebox. The colors of the plastic and the display ABSOLUTELY dont' match the car, but I'm extremely satisfied with the radio.
I have a alpine and it does red or blue for color options. Not sure what other decks do but mine is the one that only does iPod no cd's
it all depends on the alpine deck. some have more color schemes than others i dont know why but I have a deck from last years model and it has red amber blue and green but i have a buddy who has the same one from two years ago and it only has blue and red. your best bet would to go to an audio store and tell them wat you are lookin for and they will know what yo are lookin for. try to stay away from best buy they like to screw you over on the return policy if you do it your self.
This may be a bit more than what you're looking for, but my Pioneer AVH-3100DVD has a very configurable display. Buttons can be red, blue, green or white, and the menus same thing. Background can be set to literally any image you upload to it. I love it. Plus it plays DVDs. MP3 DVD FTW. Plus its a double-din, so it drops in perfectly with no mounting kit needed. Just use the brackets off your stock stereo.
Pioneers have nice color matching options. If a double din will fit in the miata, the avh and the avic series will be able to match perfectly. avic series can do custom color matching, I dont know about the avh series.
eclipse decks have a green display pending on the model. they also have fr. rr.and a non fader sub output not to mention they are a very good product its what i run in my 02 wrx
Pioneer decks are going to match the Subaru green the best. I have an older version of this deck and it looks great with the stock WRX lighting and matches the dash colors perfectly. edit: oh, saw you are looking for a miata. Well, what I said still stands for green lighting
Found mine brand new in box on Ebay for 300 shipped. WELL worth the money. USB in the front, I don't even use CDs/DVDs anymore. Thumb drives FTW. Aux in, too. I have zero complaints about it. Srsly. Link to ebay auction Pioneer official invo
He's correct on the Alpines, and I actually just may have one sittin around collecting dust. I believe it's mostly silver with green buttons. Not sure on the display itself, but white if not green. I'll just give it to ya, since either the skip back or skip forward button doesn't work on it anymore. I'll check to see if it plays MP3's and let you know. Got it at Best Buy, I bet?? I have the same deck, and it's good. Just wish I could turn it up past level 50, because my speakers can handle it and it sounds fine when cranked to the max. Might just need a small 4-way amp..
Damn! I'd pony up the extra moola for something like that, but I just bought my JVC HD deck like 2 months ago.
Actually, mine is a KD-HDR1, the first model they made. I bought it on Crutchfield in April of 2007, it was the first internal HD tuner headunit I could find. If you really can't get the volume you need from full power on a 50x4 deck, you probably need some lower impedance speakers. I had infinity reference plates in the front and pioneer 6x9s from the headunit with a 300w amped type R 10" sub in my prior car, and it was like a rolling bandshell. I never had to put it over like 38/50 even going 80 on 494 during traffic with the windows down.
Yeah, I'm not into car audio like I was when I was younger, so I'm satisfied with what I have. Like I said, I KNOW I can get louder with my 2 Alpine 6.5's (front, max 110?), and EDIT--> Polk 5" (100w max) without losing quality. Any extra money I have for my car will be going to other mods, like STS, tint, axelback, flaps, and winter rims in that order within the next year. But, let me know if you want that Alpine I have. It's about 10 years old, so probably not MP3 compatible, but puts out really nice sound, and more volume then even my new deck... hell, I'd keep it if not for no aux input on the front for my ipod and iphone.
I test drove an Eclipse CD1200 head unit last year. It had a choice of green or amber lights. I posted pics of it here... http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showpost.php?p=486676&postcount=22 Stuart.
Oh, I moved my HDR1 into the Legacy. There's no way I'm leaving the HD tuner and iPod interface in the Century Wagon! However, I do need to get new speakers in the thing. The factories ain't quite hackin it...
Shibbs: Mind if I meet you sometime? I'd love to take a look at it, I've been in your scooby but I never really looked at the dash. Edit- Oh yeah, and have you found if it can play more then just basic DVD video? IE: AVI or otherwise encoded video? Not that it's what this is for but hey, I've got a road trip coming up
Sure, I'll be at FS this friday. Girlfriend in tow. lol And yes, it plays DVIX and XVID perfectly. All 4 F&F movies on one DVD FTMFW.:laugh::laugh:
^ FS? Pardon my ignorance :x Also, you'll recognize me. I'm the 'other' Miata owner that hangs out with Ian and Shane.
A lot of the JVC units now have Variable-Color Illumination control on their displays. I've seen a number of "Cherry Blossom Red" matching decks in WRX/STi's and have seen a number of green ones as well.....they have about 30,000 different shades according to their advertising.
Too July 4th. Let me know if you find an inexpensive deck that matches... may sell mine to get the same.
what about the alpine cda-9813? its just an MP3 deck but it has green lights/buttons. they were at the top back in its day but should be relatively cheap now.
Recieved the HU last night, but was too tired to look into it much. I can vouch for it being -really- light, though. I like Also, how2remove faceplate?
Oh. Faceplate isn't removable >_> Currently looking, but anyone got the link for a howto to take my deck's stock faceplate and make it cover the dash unit, should I park it for an extended time?
This is EXACTLY the deck I have, and it matches so dead-on that it's not even funny. This, and the Maddad v2ti series gauges, and everything matches perfectly. The 9813 is getting pretty old though, I have had mine apart a few times to fix the eject mechanism, and lately it hasn't taken too well to shocks.
It sounds like alpine might fit the bill. I've got the 9813 I think, it's older and can change to many different colors and has a removable face with mp3 capability.
I went ahead and purchased the Pioneer that Shibbs proposed, it's pretty light compared to what you'd think a double-din would weigh, and wasn't bad in price. But... the face isn't removable. :/
