my boss is trading in an astro van of the companies for a new escape for the company... better then them just sitting in the parking lot going to waste.
No kidding. I'm half tempted to go trade in my dad's old beater. Its worth about $4. Sticker MPG on it was 7-13. I THINK that would qualify for something pretty decent.
Apparently miller hill Subaru in duluth only has about four or so cars left on the lot that aren't spoken for because of this deal.
It's just to bad that all those drive trains are history, they may recycle parts but not engines and trans. To the crusher they go. It's going to really diminish the junk yards of used parts. I get the idea though, get the gas guzzlers off the road
I want to know what chemical it is that they're putting in the drivetrain, that sounds like some interesting stuff.
I'll have to ask them tomorrow, not sure of we are running them dead or the junkyards are. But I've heard quite a few of them run without oil so far
THIS MAKES IT FEEL LIKE YOUR ARE PUTTING DOWN THE FAMILY PET. OMG, I'd look at my old car and say, "all you'll feel is some pressure..." , then the dealer looks at his watch and says "She's gone, I'm calling it time of death.... 4:32 pm" Kinda emotional thinking about it... It is like asking me if I'd euthinize my 12 year old dog, to get a credit on a new puppy that eats less.
I think it's a little different. It's a car vs a living object that can actually show love and affection. I understand getting attached to a car, but you may be taking things a bit too far
Any of you dealer guys see something traded in that's just too nice to destroy? i just have a feeling of stupid people trading 5 to 8 thousand dollar vehicles for a 3500 to 4500 dollar credit.
Yeah, the decomissioning procedure just makes me cringe. Didn't stop me from trading in my old '93 K1500 though. Given how sloppy the tolerances are on that old engine the sodium silicate might just make it run better.
Just read an article that said none of the dealers in MN have actually managed to get a deal approved by the gov yet. Or at least none have gotten reimbursed. All i care is that I can keep on driving my new Versa, instead of my ancient G20 or the (presumably deceased) K1500.
an E30 325i was traded in down in Kato, damn good shape, makes me sad...personally. not to mention I think this entire deal is a COMPLETE waste of the citizen's money. but hell, we told the stupid ass companies to outsource to mexico in teh first place, so we might as well give them money now for completely gutting out economy. good game america, good game.
I stopped by a u-pull at the end of the day today and the owner got in just before I left. He had been doing the rounds to dealerships all day and said he had (bought?) about 100 cars today. He said he wasn't sure yet if it had been a good, long day or just a long day. Said something else about having 6 months to have them completely done/gone. Also said something about the incredible amount of paperwork that was involved being a government process. I was just glad they had the 6-wire plug from the rear harness I needed.
seriously now, on what planet does this benefit us? so let me clear this up a bit: we come up with the amazing plan to send business to other countries subsequently, jobs are lost here money is taken from our economy we are being double taxed, effectively, or more, without our knowledge for the same goods we then buy the product, money goes to the fat cat douches and taken from our OWN god damned economy, and pumped into those who are building the new foreign built piles of crap as a result, our interior economy that drives the damn market collapses we step in, with tax payer's money, and give them to companies we offer MORE of our own money as incentive to buy these imported goods we then junk and destroy the vehicles on the road as a result, parts and service for those vehicles is now being depleted can someone PLEASE, for the love of god, tell me how this benefits ANYONE but the douche bags that got us into this ****hole in the first place? honest to god, is the nation becoming SO STUPID that we are going to let this crap constantly slide until we are so far into debt, that the camels in egypt own our asses? good lord, as far as I am concerned, if you support any of this crap, you are a moron. flat out. I don't care if you or family own a dealership even, this is another way the man is sticking it to you and taking advantage of you, just like they have been. wake up and smell the coffee, we are signing over our own lease to the nation. as stated, good game america, good game. those cheese eating surrender monkeys are looking more appealing by the day, at least the person who drove their country into hell had the balls to do it, ours was a moron who can't read.
I'm just afraid this is going to be another housing crisis, and people that have these pos' can't aford these cars 5-10 months down the road the banks end up taking them. Leading to the banks taking it in the shorts...again. Discuss
Lol, I saw this coming. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/AP-so...7.html?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=1&asset=&ccode=
So, I just read that the dealers need to disable the vehicle BEFORE they apply for reimbursment. Is that true? What if their application gets rejected, the car is already junk. They shouldn't have to disable the car until after they get the reimbursment. And now they might already be out of money... Wow, this has the potential to get really ugly.
This was a stupid government made trick to get the gas guzzlers off the road. They didn't set aside enough money to account for nearly the amount of cars that have already been traded in. Dealers are going to get the short end of this stick, and it's just going to cause havoc in the end. I know we aren't destroying anything until the dealership is paid for them. I want to run the sodium silicate in them at redline and see if I can make rods appear on the outside of the block!!!
I agree that the whole thing is stupid, but if the point is to get gas guzzlers off the road, then why only a 4mpg difference? This doesn't really seem to help much:
What happens is the buyer is on the hook for the money. Steve-O is trying to get a car through the program. He kinda purchased it last friday. When they wanted him to sign the paperwork, he found the part about how if the program dies, he is responsible to come up with the $4500. Of course, the dealership didn't have the details on how that would take place, so he said run his paperwork and let him know when he gets approved. As of last night (might as well say a week), he still has not been approved through the govt. So everyone that is currently driving around in their CFC car could be on the hook for up to $4500. Russ
One of my coworkers got notified that his car was being rejected because he'd paid for his tabs a week late. Apparently the MN Attorney General is getting involved now. This program, while well intentioned wasn't thought out very well at all.
Agreed. And we all know how eco-friendly it is to throw away a perfectly good car and then use a ton of resources to build a new one to replace it.
This is going to bite the current administration in the arse when people start getting rejected and have to come up with 4500 bucks that they probably didn't have in the first place and have to take a destroyed car back. This is going to leave a real sour taste in a lot of peoples mouths.
