    I think we should start an ongoing list of CEL codes, reason for the code, and what was done to correct the problem.

    P0420 - 2002 wrx - - Catalyst problem - Reset ECU

    Hey, mine did exactly the same thing a couple weeks ago! (2000 2.5RS).

    I figure it was the year-old gas that was in the tank from storing it all winter; hasn't come back since I used that up and cleared the code.

    if its a catlyst issue then you have smoked the inside of the cat.... it may not come on for a while but it may or may not have been caused from runnign rich --- unburnt fuel overheats cats internals... = MELTDOWN of catalyst
