Over the weekend my CEL came on, I have ’02 WRX with Cobb stage 2. My AP says the code is P0300, which I believe turns out to be a general misfire. There were no additional codes, no specific cylinders were misfiring, according to the AP, just the P0300. I’ve read up on this on NASIOC, seems like this has been going on since 2003 or so, but there are so many suggestions and not any solutions. I know that the P0300 is not actually a code listed… some people say to check coils, plugs… others say they checked them all and still have the problem… The CEL comes on at low speeds, and flashes at low speeds, once I get on the highway it stops flashing but stays on. Yesterday I drove from Missouri back here and it went off during that time, but once I stopped in St. Paul it came back on and started flashing again. Just seems weird that there are threads going back to 2003 and no solution, that I can find, to the problem. Anybody got anything on this problem? Thanks

last time i saw someone drive a wrx with a flashing CEL...the plug was fuel fouled, so it was dumping raw fuel and it sat and idled for about an hour...plugged the cat (in the up pipe), the cat started to break up and peices went through the turbo....boom, turbo shot.

I guess the first thing I would do, is stop driving the car till you can look at the plugs. The flashing cell is about 2 steps before BOOM. What is probably happening is the spark voltage is low at idle and the bad plug is not firing. So as Erik stated, you are just washing that cylinder with gas. That will lead to washing the rings clean, which will lead to low compression in that cylinder (or worse).

    Check the plugs.
