hey guys, I got some $$ from my insurance to replace my hail damaged hood. I think I wanna go with a carbon fiber one but have no idea where to get a good one with good fitment. I have heard many horror stories of them not aligning correctly. any recommends on which is best? or is it just better to go with a stock one (how much is one?).
i have a genesis... it fit's perfectly... i have no idea where to find another one tho. i bought it from a member
yep Sebon is good. However i got mine and it does have a little problem where it meets the grill on one side. I got mine from modacar.com. It took them only 5 days to ship it from California. Another place is gruppe-s.com.
Go to a subaru dealership and buy the Aluminum version of your hood. Same price or less then carbon, same or less weight. No fitment issues.
Its pretty much perfect bolt on. No, modification needed at all. The molding is pretty good, i just have that one little kink at the top of the passenger grill. I dont think it needs hood pins, it is flush to the fenders so i think it does not need them. Not very true. One of the reasons why i got a cf hood is because it was going to be a little cheaper that a stock one. A stock hood unpainted is like $500 plus another 200 to paint it and its not a fact that it will match well your fenders and grill in color.
A factory hood with a good body guy will match. If not, he is not good at paint matching. Any good CF hood will take your factory hood hardware.
I agree. It all depends on what you like. I had a chance to get a c/f hood, i have never had one and wanted to try one.

Carbon fiber is tough...but Minnesota winters are tougher! Cold azz conditions could make your carbon fiber hood MUCH lighter!:laugh: In short-Minnesota winters=carbon fiber p0wnag3. I would also take an aluminum hood over a carbon hood. Plus if you dent it up too bad, it has resale value as scrap aluminum!:laugh:
^^^^I have had my CF hood on my car for two solid winters in MN before it went into the garage this past and future winters. I only ever had one crack and that was my ****ty flimsy ass hood scoop. Besides those cracks it has been perfect. Yeah there are a couple of imperfections in the weave but unless I point them out it will take ya a little while to find em. besides, my car isn't going into any shows soon and oh yeah, I got mine for the same reason. Got into a front end collision and replaced it cause it was cheaper and the money went else where. Besdies, if I ever get tired of it, can't I just sand it down and paint over it?
Sorry to tell you, it WILL crack. I know I have one with multiple cracks, it is a Siebon. However it did last 3 years. BTW Your hood is 90% Fiberglass, only a single layer of carbon fiber for looks. If you had a real CF Hood it would cost a bit more. Mike
I have a seibon cf hood. I hate it now. first of all if you get it you should really get pins, I have driven 3 cars with cf hoods and the 2 w/o pins shake way too much. my seibon hood is heavier than stock and is starting to fade even after waxing it all the time. although if you aren't going to keep the car for over a year buy the cf because it would probably be cheaper
:kekekaugh: Yes you can paint it. I'm not trying to dog anyone on the cf, I like the looks alot. Just don't like the way it heats and cools(cracks) and the way Taras says "btw carbon fiber is very very strong material.", like Colin doesn't know anything...alot of the people on this forum know what they're talking about when they make a statement. And he "dumb's them down" with, "BTW." .....WTF.:eek4:
if it is REAL CARBON FIBER...it is a strong Biotch...But all the hoods/trunks are usually just 1 layer of it...not the whole thing I haven't seen them crack due to weather but more abuse...I.E. Slamming/Leaning/object hitting it/etc.
Since moving to brooklyn park I'd had to replace my hood twice for hail damage now. I just figured the cf would hold up better. my biggest worry is fitment and if it is stable at speed. anybody know the exact amount the stock one cost ?
PM Brian in BP or Eric in MNKTA I have never had to use hood pins...I went 145+mph with mine... but again I wasn't paying attention to my hood at that speed...
I'll be the first to admit the carbon fiber is strong as hell. If it used in an industrial way with strength in mind. Notice how awesome the Single piece STI and RS Carbon fiber drive shafts are. But carbon fiber hoods are not designed for heavy use (generalizing as there is always an exception) Also, I love the way it looks.
