edit - 06 Alpine deck into a 06 2.5 EDIT: Has anyone put an 06 alpine deck into a '06 subaru 2.5i? The guy said that in the new 06 subaru's some of the alpine harnesses' don't work. So i was curious if anyone had a problem with it?
yea it is very easy to swap out, You should come over to the hoist day im offering on Sunday and I can give you a hand. All what you would need is a wire kit and a install kit from Best Buy or womeware like that.
thanks. where do you live. i'm trying to figure out a good spot for the cable for the ipod to come out.
I think the antenna is "powered", I remember when I first put an aftermarket deck in my rex I couldn't figure out why I had such poor reception. Do a little research if your planning on installing it yourself. It's easy to fix I just can't remember exactly how. Anyone else remember?
for alpine you will need the ainet to rca cable. if you take a standard ipod cable you can pull off audio and power supply. run power from your ashtray line. i ran mine up through the center console to the storeage box. you might consider getting alpines ipod control cable, this saves a little bit of spicing time, and you have full control of the ipod from the head unit. also, the power from the ashtray, a few folks claimed it fried their ipod battery, i suppose some sort of power conditioner should be used.
some cell phone chargers a have conditioners built into them for this reason. Usually you can tell which ones they are since they're twice the price of the cheap ones, but in ipod land, I don't think that would be a reliable indicator...
thanks guys i know nothing about this. i don't want to control the ipod from the unit itself. i would rather control the music from the ipod itself, not the deck. i thought all i would need is the harness for the actual unit, the rca audio cable to go from the pre-outs on the back ot the ipod itself. wouldn't that work?
Pretty much, you may need to find some type of pocket or something, just a single din pocket, unless you plan on using a double din deck, which I doubt, search up a forester pocket on nasioc, and you'll be really set. otherwise you'll have a hole in your dash, As far as the antenea goes, just make sure you attach the blue anttenea wire when you do the wiring harness. And if you're going with an alpine, I atleast look into a unit that can use the I-pod controler( or whatever it's called), I think it's probably much better and easier to use than the i-pod itself. Easy job, you can totally do this yourself. One more hint that took me awhile to figure out ( ) is to take the brackets off the sides of stock radio to attach the aftermarket one to the car.
I have an extra single-din pocket if you want one. It's out of a 2000 impreza, so I'm not positive it's exactly the same, but I think it is. It doesn't have the flip-cover on the front, it's just open. Joel edit: Actually, the 2.5i comes with a single-din unit right? Only the wrx has the 6disc in dash changer, so you wouldn't need a din pocket.
so you are suggesting to do it myself. not pay bestbuy to do it. i'm going to have a friend help me. it seems pretty straight forward, take the stock deck out, hook up harness, hook up ipod cable, run it through console, put new deck in. GO.
not all alpines have rca aux inputs. they use the ainet cable. keep that in mind when searching for decks.
I have had the same thought about upgrading the factory deck. I looked at what Best Buy had and found a sign there that said " FREE same day installation on box purchases of $99 or more", this was at the Coon Rapids store. Crutchfield.com has a few offerings, their search engine will find the specific fit for your car. Example search: 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX sedan no factory subwoofer http://www.crutchfield.com/S-QJ9bsXLRtLs/cgi-bin/ProdGroup.asp?g=300&avf=Y#see_all Alpine does have an iPod adapter for $99. There is also a Pioneer one for more money. Car decks used to have an earphone jack on the front panel but state laws prohibit wearing headphones while driving. Manufacturers dropped them as well as the microphone input. If there was one you could connect your car deck to the iPod via the earphone jack. Another alternative is the FM local broadcast type. It works but the sound quality is significantly less than FM radio.
