I was talking with a co-worker today and he was mentioning how die-hard Harley owners are (we do their advertising) and how they plan these charity rides.

You should pick a charity then gather anyone interested. Charge anywhere from 30-75 bucks, it would include a t-shirt or a window vinyl sticker.

MNSubaruClub could be the "sponsor" and you could then invite other groups of cars, SRT4, MNSportCompacts and me in my Saab :D

I could probably talk to an art director from Porsche at our work and see if she could do posters, stickers, t-shirts etc.

It would be a goodway to raise community awareness of something (not sure what)

I would suggest a cross state trip with maybe an overnight stay--somewhere in S.D or the UP or Canada or something--if we went north, the Duluth crew could join us--but I really don't know anything about the surrounding states. So I would be no help.

Just an idea. I think it would be fun. Anyone else?

    Cheers
    Chris

I am all for it and will help in any way but it would be best if someone who has been here for awhile heads it up. Or at least someone that drives a Subaru (as opposed to myself) :D

Agreed! i've thought of something like this many times. vic and i were going to set up something at his parents land in wisconsin, but that fell through.

I'm definitely giving you the go ahead if you want to plan something. There is definitely some red tape we would need to get through to get it done. I dont think we would need insurance because its not like are all driving around on a sanctioned track or parking lot for that matter.

We would definitely need someone that knows a good area of back country off road trails.

I would like to get a group of maybe 5-7 ppl together and have a meeting at my place. We can maybe then have meetings once every week in the beginning then further apart there after. We need to be organized like this in order for this to succeed.

Who wants to step up and be part of the committee to get this done?

Sorry to confuse you on the "rally"

I was thinking "rally" as in the traditional, on public road "cruise"

Sorry back in Indiana rally refered to a group of people driving from a set point, lets say Minneapolis to Moorhead.

If you did the off road rally--I probably wouldn't participate--car isn't up to that..

Just to re-iterate I meant something along the lines of a cross state drive.

Think Cannonball Run, but we wouldn't drive like jagoffs. :D

I would love to meet up with a group of people. We would have to start planning now in order to do it in late spring or summer.

You don't need insurance, and you don't break the speed limit. There are lots of local groups who organize stuff like this. It's more like a parade than anything else really.

You can run sweepers to stop traffic, but in cars that is very difficult. they would have to be on motorcycles for it to work well.

What about a drive up to Brainerd International Raceway for some sort of track day or drag racing? I'm not sure if this is far enough, but it would be fun to have organized motorsports involved.

    EDIT: wow i cant type!

this is a good idea. we should pick a nice universal charity like animal humane society or cancer research fund that everyone is for, and contact them.

i am kinda interested to see what type of event this turns into. it could be a road rally/ scavanger hunt type thing. where teams havet o go collect flags or something (could be placed all over teh state), it could just be a cruise. start down town go through the cities, and go north to duluth or something. <--- would be cool to get police help lol, they could stop traffic and tick lights for teh cause lol.

anyway it happens it would be a good idea to get alot of publicity for it. contact papers, possible news stations tv.radio. "The Minnesota Subaru Club is hostin a fundrasir for XXXXX charity, they will take pledges and drive around the state to raise awreness of Subarus, and XXXXXX charity". that would be sweetness. i also think that some type of particpation outhg to be rewarded be it free t-shirt or sometype of sticker (leads to other i dea i will explain later) or even a specail little tittle on teh boards.

here the idea of stckers i just mentioned. assuming this happens more then once, we could make differnt sticker per event. then the stickers could be collected to show what events you have been too. so if this happens more often you could have a nice set of stickers on your door/ rear quarte. or back glass that lists what you have done. ie. 2006 charity drive for cancer reaserch, 2007 drive for the cure, 2008 save the pets humane society drive. i think it would be neat, plus it would help stop ppl thinkign we are all a bunch of skreet racers, cause we are doing somehing for the community.

muahahhahaha now you have me thinking! too many ideas. what do you think bout the sticker thing? ooh yeah the sticker thing could maybe ebe caried over to the baords. so under suby lord or n00b or whatever it could say, 2006 drive for cure under it or something neat.

I'm in!!!!! Let me know if I can do ANYTHING to help!

Even if we didn't go to BIR on the charity run, we should also plan a trip like that so we can all have some fun on a closed track. 8)

If we get enough help from local businesses we could use their sponsorship money to cover the cost of the t-shirts. We could put the logo of the charity and all the logos of donors on the shirt.

    Potential sponsors:
Carmichael Lynch--they are really good about supporting causes
Morries--seems fitting as a few members are on here

This is going to take a TON of planning. How would we collect the money? How would people register? How would we get other clubs involved?

Tons of questions that need to be answered.

    Could be very cool though.

martin you have a ton of great ideas. btw, you just opted to be in as well just to let you know. i'll come up with a list of ppl that want to be the steering committee for it. then i'll go from there with the logistics of things.

i'll start up an agenda for our first meeting.

i would like to nominate the crohn's and colitis foundation of ameriaca as a charity. it is very close to me.

Wow. I didn't know it effected younger people. I always just assumed it was middle-aged people. A guy at my family's church had it and he would be fine for a long time and then one random day he would be in incredible pain. I never quite understood the complexities of it--but from what I understand the doctors don't quite understand it all either.

yeah actually its most common in the 20's age group. i actually had a fatal case of ulcerative colitis last year so the surgeon decided he wanted to steal my entire large intestine and not give it back. thats why i didnt work all of last year.

You mean NEAR-fatal. Glad you ended up being all right. Wow excuse the curiousity but if you don't have a large intestine...how do you, well eat, digest food etc.

**nevermind** I just did some reading. Incredible! Glad you are all right now.

lol, my giood ideas just volnteered me huh? alright i am cool with that i guess.

we should develop a list of possible charities then create a poll, or we could decide to support multiple charities and then plit th money we raise among them.

as for if we should invite other clubs. i think we should. the more people we can get to support our cause the better. i think it is also very important that we designate the fact the MNSubaru is orginizing the rally, and that other groups are helping us. so maybe once we get a date, and a decent plan we can go out to other MN car clubs either via websites, emails, or in person on university ave, and post bullitens and flyers or just talk it up. as we can get people that arent members of car clubs to participate too. just cause in cause so old lady in her legy wagon isnt part of the club doesnt mean she shouldnt be able to participate. we might be able to reach outside subie ppl with notices at the dealerships, and perhaps through employes at the dealerships.

IMO it would be cool to do the "parade" rally through town. it allows more ppl to join in, not just those who wana drive fast. also we can show off our cars :). ooohhh yeah and STICKERS!!!!

Sound good! Oh and Martin--if you want to drive across the state and set up flags and so on--be my guest :D

I say we pick a final destination and then stop every few hours at local "hot spots"

Like the giant ball of twine -- isn't that a famous MN thing?! :D

^ besides it cant be a committe w/ out readymix!

EDIT: perhaps we could do a car show similar to the rides for relief & get donations for ppl to look at hot cars. or even somthing like penny wars. @ the car show put containers next to the cars. then ppl put $$ or .01 into the containers. the car with the most $$ raised wins something.

    IDEAS ARE ALWAYS GOOD.

But. I would think we should have one solid year without too many frills...then build it up each year. Things will get easier each year--due to awarness etc.

Regardless, even if we raise $300 and have no shirts or stickers we are still supporting a good cause.

I would think shirts/decals would be feasible, anything beyond that -- like a car show or an event at Brainerd would be kind of difficult--but that doesn't mean it can't be done. It is just going to take TONS of time and patience.

Once we get the everything taken care of and pick a date for this run, we need to get some publisity...maybe City Pages or some kind of media exposure to promote the event and get more people to donate. :)

wow...these are all amazing ideas. I can't wait to see what comes of this. I do agree though with the point that we should not try to over do ourselves right away this first year. If we could great but its gonna take a lot of planning and energy. We should definately set a goal for how much to try and make. Always seems to help push people a little bit. I dont really agree with the idea of splitting it up amongst multiple charities. This is the first year we are doing this and I dont see a whole huge amount of money coming in to be split. A poll should be created when the time comes to pick one charity and focus on it. Would be the best if we could pick a charity that directly affects one of the people in the community. Those are just my thoughts but I would be up for whatever the committe decides as this will be a wonderful even no matter what the turn out.

when we select our chariyt we should contact them to make sure that they are ok, w/ geting funds from a car club. i know most ppl would think oohh money sweet, but some ppl dont like being linked to car clubs. just a necessary step.
