now that you are runnning vBulletin.... how hard would it be to set up a chatroom? and how much would it cost? i noticed that other vbulletin site have chatrroms, and thought it would be pretty nice to have one on this site....
I have an IRC java interface that I hacked a while back. It is stored somewhere on the HDD, but I can find it. You'd need an mnsubaru IRC channel, but this would allow a web based front end for it.
This client would make it all pretty seamless, you type in a name, and hit connect. It would do all of it for you. No searching for the room name, no worrying really. Type name, hit enter. It isn't like mIRC or anything like that. And the chat is displayed on the webpage it is embedded in, so no special programs are needed.
Ok, it's installed, but I'm still tying up some loose ends on it. We'll see what happens. It seems like a pretty slick setup, and it was only 5 bucks for a one site license. It integrates nicely into phpBB and most other CMS software packages. The way it is setup right now, if you are a member of t3hw00t.com, you have access to the chat. And if you are already logged into t3hw00t, it automaticly logs you into the chat when you click the link to the chat. Pretty sweet, good call IllicitWRX.
www.t3hw00t.com It is setup now. Go to t3hw00t and click the "CHAT" link. If you are a member of t3hw00t, sign into the portal. You can then simply click the CHAT link. If you aren't a member, and want to chat....to effing bad, sign up. It doesn't cost money or anything, geez.
I've removed the foul language filter, swear away. And it still needs some minor tweaks, but it seems to work nicely. I guess it gets a little bit taxed at 30 users. But I'll worry about that when the time comes. I don't forsee that happening just yet. I think I have 30 regulars, and they are all never on at the same time.
Hahaha, that is because you need to have AOL instant messenger to enter that. Anyway, the only problem I'm having with it right now is that I can't seem to get my portal screen to display the output of hte 'who's online' file. I can open it directly in a browser window, but I can't dynamicly load and display it on the portal. Which isn't bad, per say, but I'd like to have it so we can see exactly who, and how many are chatting.
IMO a mnsubaru chat isnt a good idea. it would hafta constantly be moderated, which would be difficult.
i think a chat would be a good edition......but as stated, it will have to be mod constantly incase fights break out and all hell lets lose...but then agian, it be fun to see =D
IDK, with 11 people in there right now, I don't need a moderation. No one has been banned or corrected yet. But then again, I don't have any rules on language aside from no racism or child porn.
t3hw00t chat has its moments. But it isn't always populated. I usually will post a time on the forums to shoot for and it gets full and goes silly until everyone goes to bed. You guys are welcome to advertise a time and date here for a chat. For instance if you want to get a chat together on Thursday night, you could start a thread in OT "Thursday night @ 9pm t3hw00t chat!" and tell everyone to be there. That is how I do it and it works fine. But there aren't enough members over there currently to populate a chat 24hrs a day. We all have jobs.
