I just saw at Menards some H3 12v 100W halogen bulbs on sale for $2.99 each. They were in the flashlight section. They were packaged for some brand of flashlight, but they looked like regular H3 bulbs. 100w is more than stock, but if you want to try some more wattage, I think that's a good price.
Beware of the possibility of the reflective coating peeling off, maybee melting something (including wiring) if you increase wattage that much. I got my 02' second hand, and found a service slip in the car (shortly after purchase) that mentioned something about some fried wiring due to aftermarket bulbs...don't know for sure which bulbs though...
100W H3 bubs can be found for that or less at Fleet Farm, and the bulbs are made by Sylvania (Osram), but packaged by some brand like 'Night Watcher' or some such. You can run 100W bulbs with stock wiring. It will first overheat and discolor the shield in the center of the lamp, reducing the actual light out of the lamp somewhat, then eventually the reflector will start to oxidize and the output will go down some more. But it'll take a long time to be noticeable and the wires won't melt. 130W bulbs will probably melt the wires or the connectors in short order. Thing is, as I keep saying over and over, the pattern on the stock fogs just plain sucks. It doesn't matter how many watts you pump out of a light if it's not going anyplace useful. A fog light with a good fog pattern also doesn't need more than a 55W bulb. Higher wattages may make you feel like you're seeing more due to the brightness, but in fact you're reducing your actual vision by the amount of backscatter off on near objects. In other words, you may be able to see better in that first 50', but you'll see worse down the road from that. A good quality fog lamp like a Hella or a PIAA will provide much more visibility with a 55W bulb than a stock will with a 100W. Driving lights are another story. Because their pattern is a long ways down the road, more watts is better.
oh yea, you guys reminded me. Any brands you guys recommand for HeadLight bulbs. I want to see clearer and brighter then OEM but dont want to melt/burn any wires.
http://www.candlepowerinc.com/ I recently ordered narva rangepower for the headlights, and selective yellow h3's for the fogs...both are better than stock. Though I hear if you really want a boost in light performance, put in a relay kit...deal is that the stock wiring is bare minimum, and doesn't carry the current well, the relay kit (as far as I know) just uses the stock wiring to trigger a relay, which is wired with beefier wire to power the lights.
