I am looking to buy some tires for WRX, and was wondering if anyone had any all season tire suggestions, cheaper the better. Or are there any tires I should stay away from? I am looking to spend less than about 80/tire + m/b. Size is 205/55/16 Any input appreciated
why would you buy a performance sedan then throw the cheapest tires you can on... they are the last contact between you and the road.. maybe buy an in-expensive tire... go to tire-rack or Discount Tire get a decent tire for a REASONABLE price... if you cant do that then sell the wrx and buy a HONDA.. i hear 14in tires are CHEAAAAAP
Haha, not helpful AT ALL. If my price range is unreasonable, what is reasonable? The last set of tires I bought were like 52/tire for Blizzaks... So I just have a hard time justifying spending alot on tires, but I am looking for suggestions, not flaming. I seriously have no idea what a good tire even is... All I know is that I need tires sometime this week, and I am kinda clueless.
again.. how is this not helpful... most guys on here probably wouldnt be able to tell you what a cheap crappy dangerous tire is as they choose to spend their money on things that improve, handling, ride, performance & safety
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&place=8 $80 isn't that "cheap" in that size for summers.
You could also go this route http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=205%2055%2016 some times you can find decent used ones. Just be sure if you do buy used that they are from a matched set, all tires match brand and wear. This is very important with all wheel drive. I am a firm believer that tires can be one of the most important performance enahancing or degrading things you do to your car.
are you saying this isnt cheap or isnt bad for that tire?? to me it isnt so much the price... but qaulity.. when someone says cheap there is SAms club or Discount tire... same thing for car parts... look if you want some rubber to go round adn round and not provide a higher benefit of safety its your car and your dime... my vote is go to Sams or Wally WOrld.. I am sure they have 'cheap' tires
My main issue was the "cheaper the better" comment. $80/tire is a reasonable range and you can get a fairly decent tire for that price, but if you go cheaper, you're looking at something like a Wal-Mart Douglas Xtra-Trac, and I can tell you, they're crap.
If you are just looking for hella cheap tires hit up Sam's/Sears/etc...otherwise make a trip to tirerack.com and look @ some in your price range and read up on em...
no probs dude... I wasnt trying to be an ass.. just saying... WRX and cheap... just some things you are better off spending a little more and getting better.. you would not be dis-appointed in a car like a WRX.. I am guessing by your location you are about to buy one and it needs tires?? or you just did??
Yes, do research before buying tires. In my experience, the best tire for the money is the Kumho ASX.
I was just looking for some insight. I just picked up my first subie today, and it unfortunately has mismatched tires (all are 205/55/16, different in back than up front, and one is worn really bad, and i dont plan on driving the car until I put tires on it, as I would assume that the small difference in size would be kinda hard on the drivetrain..)
Ok, that tire is $84 at discount tire, that is definately do-able. I really dont have any money to buy tires right now, but I want to be able to drive my new car, haha, so I am just gonna have to suck it up, lol
Since there are a ton of tire snobs on here, it's quite common to run across stock RE92 takeoffs for super cheap. Perhaps do a search and see what you can dig up.
I couldn't say it any better man. Tires are one area where people always go cheap on then regret it later down the road. I understand having a money cap issue, but if I was you I'd do everything in my power to buy a good decent tire.
get these, they last, OK for winter driving and cheap. Highly recomended. Otherwise if you're not into performance at all get some cheap all-seasons at wall-mart.
BRAKING performance is always important, even if you only have to use it once. It'll save your life and others' as well. Please NOBODY cheap out on tires.
Find some Generals or Kumhos they are decent tires and usually pretty cheap. I bought some General snow tires for this last winter and they did really good, I was really happy with the performance value I got from them. My summers are Kumhos and they are also pretty good, they are not great but they are very good performance for the money in my opinion.
I run generals... they are 'inexpensive' read cheap.. but they still cost me $100 ea... but thats cause I owned a shop, and used to take care of a lot of Discount Tires's customers so they took care of me... I also run 19's so cheap in my range are still a decent tire
The general snows are fantastic tires. Rebranded Gislavveds (or however you spell that). I dunno, i think Kumhos are a bit overrated.
Kumhos tend to be a good bang for the buck tire. They're not at the same level as the really top-end tires, but they're not bad, and they're a lot cheaper. I'm an admitted tire snob. I've happily dropped nearly a grand on a set of tires for my WRX. The tires I have waiting to go on my G20 would have been about $800 had I not gotten them in the Tire Rack blowout for 1/2 that. I have two sets of Kumho tires, one set of soft compound gravel tires, and one set of R-compound slicks (well two, but one set needs to be dismounted and disposed of). They're decent for the special purposes they serve for me, but for the tires I use very day, I can justify spending a little more to provide the largest edge I can for myself and my family. You will probably be happy with the ASX. They're probably better than what 80% of the people out there on the road are running. You may someday get to drive a car with really good summer rubber in the summer, or really good snow tires in the winter, and you will be spoiled for ever going back to all-seasons again.
I had Blizzaks on my civic, and holy crap, that stupid car would go through anything, it was simply amazing
All-seasons on my V8 T-Bird to Pilot Alpin's on the WRX was what sealed the deal on my AWD love LOL I was looking for alley's with snow built up at the ends of them to plow through. Oh and streets not plowed yet
