Anybody know the cheapest and worthwhile place to mount tires. I'm aiming to install my new traction t/a's next year 2008 after fall season. i'm also looking for some 17 inch sti rims or high quality light to medium weight rims with decent treading tires for under $900.00 for next year 2008.
Sam's Club!!!! $9 a tire, mounting, balancing, and valve stems. $1.50 (IIRC) each for disposal. find someone with a membership....hell buy a membership, you'll still save money. they mounted the lo pro Kumho's on my Rotas, didn't damage/scratch them at all.
Costco and Sams Club both used to mount/balance for cheap. But Costco stopped doing this over a year ago, and last week when I went to Sams Club to have winter tires mounted/balanced, they said they don't mount tires that customers bring in anymore(This was the Fridley location, maybe someone can try some other Sam's locations).
Apple Valley Wal-mart did my GF's Blizzaks for about $12 a piece. Valve stem, mount and balance. I kept the old tires.
I've done 2 sets of them up here at the Duluth locale.....carried in the tires both times. my Rotas were still in their boxes. $9 each without disposal, and I believe $10.50 with.
**** Walmart. Seriously. Go and bring 'em to a nice local. His prices are pretty much unbeatable. http://thealignmentguy.com/album.htm
Yeah, I've done at least a few sets at Costco, and half a dozen at Sams Club. But the last set I did at Sams was at least 6 months ago. When was the most recent you had some installed at Sams?
I took mine to Car-X...not cheap at $80 but they did them walk-in when *I* had the time to do it. Everyone else was scheduled out for days. Biggest challenge for me was waiting until the last minute (well, really 8 hours) before the snow fell because I'd dragged my feet on making the decision to paint my rims.
haha....that's the crucial piece of info I was going to mention in my last post.....DOH!! anyway, both sets were done within the last 2 months (they were only a couple days apart too)
OK, so maybe if others around the twin cities can try some other Sams Club locations, we can get an idea if there are still some Sams that mount tires for us.
Jeff needs to charge more than he does. He does damn good work, and I'd like to see him stick around for a long time, and if that means paying a few extra $, then I'm happy to part with a few extra. And yes, **** Walmart. You get what you pay for. If you want tires mounted by highschool dropouts who won't even bother to clean the beads to check for leaks after they're done, then I guess they're your choice.
Come on now... They aren't that bad. They do check for leaks. That's how I found out that I needed to replace one of the tires I bought. They didn't charge for mounting that tire either. I just brought in another one and they did it up right.
One of the tires Jeff fixed for me was a brand-new tire mounted by Walmart. The thing leaked at three places around the bead, and when he dismounted it, you could see all the crud they hadn't even bothered to wipe off the bead of the rim. This was a warranty replacement for a tire that went down out in the middle of nowhere WI. If it hadn't had the Walmart warranty, I wouldn't have considered bringing it there in the first place.
True, but when you sell a service for cheap, it means that you're paying the person who does the work very little. And what kind of employees do you get when you pay very little? Generally not experienced, capable, concientious employees.
Gripe Gripe Gripe.....I've had problems with that at most everywhere I've gone. Tires Plus has always been substantially worse than Wal-Mart/Sam's. But we had to take my dad's '94 Legacy back to Discount tire in plymouth to have them clean the rims so the tires would seal about a week after buying the tires there....
Just called Sams club Maple Grove, they do NOT mount/balance tires that you bring in, must be bought at the store. Called Jeff the alignment guy and its around $15 per tire (for 45 sidewall), plus disposal fee. Looks like I will be going with him.
