Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to remove cigarette smell in a car? I have heard steam cleaning works well, but dont know of any good places to get that done. Any input would be appreciated!
I've had some luck with leaving an open container of coffee grounds under seats and in cup holders for awhile. Might not work as well as a good steam cleaning though. Or maybe I just prefer the smell of a coffee shop to an old bar?
ding ding ding, lol I got some really good advice from a guy in the industry, he said to rent a vapertek. Found a local place that rents them, along with a good cleaning, hopefully it will do the trick! I will keep everyone posted.
Depends on how often it was smoked in. Febreeze is a good idea, But I think steam cleaning would be one of the best bets. When I used to smoke in my older cars I used to always roll with the windows down or leave my windows cracked. Always had some kind of air freshener in the beast too.
I used Ozium in a car I once bought. Seemed to work along with carpet cleaning and steam cleaning. Then tons of air fresheners.
headliner, carpets, and seats have been cleaned. I will clean them once more this week. I have replaced the cabin filter, pulled some of the interior plastics and cleaned them. I will be renting a verptek this week so hopefully after that it will be almost gone.
If that doesn't work try a detailing deodorizer. When I bought my wrx seats they had a hint of smoke scent on them, they had also been sitting for who knows how long. Detailers pride from Auto Geek has some. You can either fog your car or spray it as little or as much as you want. Works pretty well.
This popped up on Jalopnik today... http://jalopnik.com/how-to-destankify-your-car-cheaply-and-without-chemical-784310108
Have you considered starting your own smoking habit? It might be easier than all this cleaning business!
If they smoked a lot in the car, most likely it has worked itself in the HVAC system. I've had people get in my car and say "wow with as much as you smoke I'd imagine it would stink worse in here" but as soon as I turn on the air they get a nice wave of stale nasty smoke smell thrust in their face. So just because you can get it out of the fabric in the car, it will most likely still smell when you run the air. I'm a former pack+ a day smoker, now down to a pack every 4 days.
I used ZEP smoker upholestry cleaner on the most recent smoker car I was dealing with. Stripped the entire interior out, washed every surface (metal, carpet, chairs, etc) and also sprayed a bunch through the HVAC system. No smoke smell several months later even through the hot summer!
