Wondering if anyone has any insight on this issue. On acceleration from a stop, or if I lug the engine while accelerating, like when I should downshift to get some speed but feel lazy so I don't, there is a click from what I assume is the fuel pump relay near my feet and the car hesitates and bucks until there's more RPM. Then all is fine. When it initially happened I swapped out the MAF thinking that's what it was, but the problem persists. There are various mods on the motor, but as far as I can tell, the issue isn't related to one of them. The motor mods include the phenolic intake spacers, lightweight flywheel and crank pully, and grounding kit. Anyone have ideas about where to look next? It is driveable, but for autox, it is a real pain getting off the line feathering the clutch.
Year, model, mods? Honestly sounds like a bad relay and at low rpms the car is trying to compensate for too low of rpms
'98 Legacy GT 2.5M. The relevant mods were listed in the post. I did swap the relays around to see if a different one in the fuel pump spot would fix it but nothing changed.
I have had the motor running and sprayed some starter fluid around the vacuum hoses to see if there's a change in idle, but nothing seemed to make a difference. It really does have me stumped.
It isn't a clank, and I have cleaned the pcv recently. It is something triggering a relay in the cabin. I swapped the tps out, but have not had a chance to take it for a spin yet.
We have a winner! Installed the damned thing a month ago and was just able to drive it for the first time since and it's golden! Thank you. Very likely I'll be selling it soon now that this is solved. Thank you for the help.
Welp, not the culprit after all. The problem has returned. The fact that I had just put a brand new battery in the vehicle when it was not having the issue makes me wonder if this isn't related. Possibly an alt not putting out enough voltage? Thoughts?
