Well after visiting Matt(bikerboy) and finding out I need a ECU reflash for the up/downpipoe mods I started looking at the AP. I was browsing the Cobb AP website and notice they have maps for stock vehicles. The first 2 maps are my main question: Stage 1 91 oct Stage 1 for Stock Vehicles. 91 octane fuel. 255HP / 260 ft-lbs. Stage 1 93 oct Stage 1 for Stock Vehicles. 93 octane fuel. 260HP / 260 ft-lbs. If I were to get the AP and plug in either of these maps I can jump up my HP to those numbers? Or in the general vicinity of these numbers? Then I when I get the up/downpipe installed I can relash to a different map to fully benefit to the upgrades, correct? I ask because I was going to get the up/downpipe first and then the AP. But, if I can get a few extra HP just from the AP on my stock '02 WRX I'll just go that route. That wy when I finally get the up/down I'll be ready to just plug in the map and be set. Am I on the right track? Opinions, idea's?
Get the AP first...To run an UP/DP I believe you need some form of engine management to keep from running lean.
Yeah, thats what Matt was saying. Said I wouldn't really see any benefits of the up/downpipes untill I got the AP. But, I could gain some horsepower by just loading in one of the maps I quoted above without any mods, right? Thats pretty much my main question. Will I see any noticeable gains on my stock wrx by just plugging in 1 of those 2 maps?
Nice meeting you yesterday, Matt! If you don't get the AP now you will have to buy it later when you get an UP and DP. You should see some gains over stock with just the AP. You will still see gains with the UP and DP but you will not realize the FULL gains without the AP.
Get the AP, and run the stg 1 map until you have the money to get the downpipe and uppipe you want. That would be the safest route for your car. That's what I did. Stg 1 was pretty nice; the car was much smoother in terms of power delivery. IMHO, it's how Subaru should of had the WRX come from the factory.
You can sefely run an up/dp without doing a re-flash because your not changing boost levels. However, you may set a CEL if you don't have an 02 sensor fix for not having a cat in the DP. I would recommend getting the access port and the up/dp and install it all at once...that way the grin on your face is bigger!
Ok I didn't say that you can't put in your UP/DP w/o EM. I said that you will get the best gains from doing all of them. You can do the pipes and then do the EM later you just will not get all of the performence. There numbers are for crank HP and not wheel hp. I would also add that the figures are a little optimistic.
Naw I know, I guess I didn't clarify! Plus, I figured those numbers were on the high end of the scale.
I noticed something in my stock 03, once my warranty is up I'm going to go to stage 2 though. Its nothing REALLY dramatic but you definately notice it.
