i'm not finally running cobb stage 2 and i plan on staying with stage 2 for a long time is there anyone that does tunes or small tunes just to beef up stage two a bit??? thanks and sorry if this is a repeat..
i know (walloftvs) does openECU but i'm running cobb and last i heard he doesn't do cobb.. does russ do cobb?
Yes, I can do the cobb stuff. I am currently pretty busy so I don't have a whole lot of time. Is it a ap2.0 or 1.0?? That will really make a determination if/when I can get to it. For now I am passing on all ap 2.0 things till cobb can get their heads out of their asses. Russ
just giving another option... but if you like the userability of switching map then get Russ or one of the local shops to tune you a couple of maps...
dude. grant you know you spend 7 hours a day with me, i have the asnwer to every question you'l ever have.
anways back to the question about cobb tuning... shineynitelite i know we can help each other but not with tuning lol
 come on, there are legitmate uses for AP's you guys consistently gloss over. If you want one map that takes a while to get right get OpenEcu If you want more than one map, get an AP. simple as that really.
Yeah, the Cobb maps for the '06 WRX are pretty poor, imho. There's some pretty jacked timing issues with them that Cobb has yet to fix but the Enginuity guys have. However, I totally agree with Zak on the versatility of the AP, especially if you aren't very computer savvy. Just like how the openecu/enginuity/whatever thing isn't for everyone, the AP also isn't for everyone. Each can totally exist in harmony, imho as they both fill separate voids in the market.
Well, if you have a clue oon how to tune, the open ecu stuff will work, but if you don't know the first thing about tuning the open ecu is a scary way to get into it. The forums have about as much bad info on them as nasioc. You really should know what is going on before you just jump into trying to tune a car. Russ
my thoughts exactly. If I were only getting one map I'd go w/ openecu, but damn street touring requires that i run a map with no boost changes, and damned if i'm going to run that on the street If you want a race gas/pump gas setup AP is nice too. I'm datalogging my engine using the 2006 cobb stage 2 "gonna blow your car up oh noes" timing and I really am not seeing any problems. I wont be keeping that map for very long though.
I thought about doing open ecu for a hot second. Then I realized I didn't want to spent time and dyno money on futzing around with another side project. I did the same thing when I graduated from college. I futzed around with doing a dual boot linux system just to keep my brain active. Got it installed and working, and then realized I hated all the work and realized windows does everything I need in a computer and it comes already installed... kind of a weird tangent, but I see it as a parallel situation. I know most people who do open ecu, just have someone make them a map and leave it at that. I'd be the one who ends up doing all the crazy data logging and dyno runs just to achieve what the ap does out of the box (because its not like I'd really top the ap tune). I'd say the $600 is worth it to me. But I'm one of those all or nothing types sometimes. Isn't there a big dyno day coming up? That would probably be your best bet at getting a polished tune. But that one is probably all filled up by now.
Actually, the cobb AP tunes are very similar to the staged tunes on the OSECU forums (free downloadable base maps). A staged tune is a staged tune, none of them are personalized for your car. But yes, OpenECU does allow you that flexibility to log and change your maps at will. If you have an addictive personality, it's not for you (aka Tom - Mr. 50+ stage 1 revisions).
is there a way to data log the new apv2? Esperunit - curious if the sti map stage 2 v111 has anything different going on systematicly then the wrx stg 2 v111
you can see what the maps look like in street tuner or pro tuner. The STi map is different from the wrx map as the injectors are different sizes, the turbos are different, the intercooler is different, the compression ratio of the engine is different, and the stock ecu is different.
