So my second car is almost sold, now comes time to make my Subie faster. My options are 1. Cobb Access port 2. get a pro tune (ie Tom) my car has 56000 on it and am not to sure as to which way I would like to go. Pro tune is much cheaper but Cobb has its perks. Also I'm starting to think that I wanna go STi axle back, custom mid pipe, and Erz downpipe, I haven't heard SPT yet but that may be an option also. I guess I should say my goal, I plan on keeping my car as quiet as possible but make it a bit faster.

i'm in the same boat as you bro. About ready to pull the trigger on some exhaust stuff, and leaning towards open ecu. but still open to opinions. seems like a tough choice

Man, I'm not sure any question has been asked more in the past year then this one. Not to be an ass, but I'm sure you can get many hits by searching both this forum and nasoic for this topic.

Protune usually refers to getting a car-specific tune that will match what mods you have with the best possible engine tune for the psi you want to run.

That said- get someone to tune your car. Tom, LSE, DB, whoever. You will get better results and a more drivable car.

OpenECU would be cheaper though some people are worried about re-flashing their ECU's over and over (there is a set amount that these chips can handle) when they like to change their map. If you go with Cobb, you only need to reflash once for a base map and then you can use real-time maps with it. Saves your ECU chip from being worn out.

Actually, the ECU's memory is flash memory, similar to a USB key. I have yet to see an example of someone frying their ECU from flashing basemaps. However, real-time mapping does have it's advantages. Some people also like the bells & whistles the AP comes with (0-60, etc).

And yeah, I'm Nate. You'd think Nathan could remember his own name...
