Anyone else looking forward to the release of Dirt 3. My main interest in this game which got my interest from Dirt 2 was the physics and how dynamic the drive ability was in relations to the real world, which is a lot closer than most games I've played. Okay I don't play very many but like some of the big house hold names like GT5. Being able to reproduce what you just did on the previous lap and to be able to build on that is pretty amazing. Now that's more than a game, that's an incredible tool for those of use who are using it for more than just entertaining ourselves and friends. Some of the things I'm able to do on Dirt 2 still surprises me, you can apply some pretty advance driving techniques on this game and see it unfold before your eyes. I'm not one to be waiting on video games, but this unfortunately will be the first. http://community.codemasters.com/fo...on-1339/454887-dirt3-making-story-so-far.html
I'm looking forward to it. Being a huge Gran Turismo fan, I was greatly dissapointed in alot of aspects of GT5....
Dirt 2 made me very sad after being exposed to RBR. That and my xbox ate my disc so I couldn't play through the whole way. RBR blew my f'n mind as far as pure attention to physics. That one was good for inciting pure rage during the learning curve, followed by many, many, many addictive hours of sliding sideways around Finland. Speaking of... anyone have a Dirt 2 disc for XBOX they're willing to loan me so I can copy it to the hard drive? Pretty sure mine will play with the trashed disc if I already have it on HD.
You're not alone there brother. I haven't touched that game for over 2 months. Holy cow, I thought it was going to be a long the lines of GT5P which was pretty good. I wanted to get rid of it, but decided to keep it to show my friend show incredibly crappy the game was.
I've read about the new Dirt 3, and it sounds pretty cool. I will definitely check it out when it comes out. I'm a huge fan of the driving games, and I am not impressed with GT5 either. If I want the simulator type driving, I've been playing Forza III. That game has great car control, modifications, and customization of vehicles. I am looking forward to Dirt 3.
OMG! Where do I get one of those chair/wheel set ups? That thing is awesome! I know what I want for Christmas.
I have a Playseat but not this particular model http://www.amazon.com/Playseat-Soun...YYJS/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1299266611&sr=8-8 I currently have the Logitech G25 with my setup. Its amazing!
Dirt3 is suppose to be built on the same Dirt2 driving engine but will be improved upon based on the feedback CodeMaster received from the fans. I just hope they don't out do themselves. A lot of the new enhancements are very exciting to hear and see in the new release but I just hope its not too arcadish.
Would you believe me if I told you my track driving experience has improved by at least +10% since I started using Dirt2 as a tool.
Actually I'm on the track a lot thoughout the year, lets just say there are some things/techniques I won't attempt to do at race speeds without prior testing in a controlled environment. The cost could be deadly lol
^^ So, i just recently started playing dirt 2- yes, quite behind. Anyhow-would you be kind to give me some tips on how to win the trailblazer rallies?- vehicle setup and also, how does one win the gate crasher race? *06-07 STi* thx
I'm using a steering wheel. I've tried to look far down the road that my neck got stiff -lol I find it strange that a vehicle setup for rally in croatia won't work for Utah, yet it's all gravel. I found some setups on youtube that i'll apply.
FB just posted a thread with Kris Meeke Rally Driver to help answer questions from Dirt3 fans......I'm gonna go ask a question!!!
Looks promising for the most part. Seems to still suffer from a bit of "pole" physics. I'd like to hear the pace notes too. That's been my biggest complaint about most rally games so far. I should be able to go flat out without looking at a map. They really missed the mark with that one in the last two dirt games. I'll be picking it up though, looks pretty anyway.
May I ask what controller and gaming system are you using? Which pole physic's are seeing to be missing from the game?
xbox and regular controller, though I did get to play it with a g25 on PS3 as well. The issue is "pole" physics being present in the game, not missing. That's how I would describe the notion that the car is pivoting around a vertical pole through the center of gravity as opposed to using proper tire dynamics. This has been exacerbated cars also feeling very, very light in the CMR/DiRT games. The feeling of weight and grip just hasn't been up to par with any of the other heavy hitting sim racers, which is understandable. RBR WAS on par and nobody could play the damn thing. Took two hours to figure out how to get through a stage without completely tanking it. My kinda game. Anyway, all signs point to them moving closer to simulation as opposed to arcade physics. I'm sure it will be well worth the $60 either way, but a guy can dream.
This is silly but I didn't know thats what they were called til recently and second I was unsuccessful in doing this in GT5. I've never rallied but having watched WRC for many years I've picked up some valuable tricks and techniques that actually work. The climate and night racing is so much more consistent and driving in it comes mores natural.
For a car club that has such a great history in rally I'm shocked no one else has picked it up yet. Lmao
I think this one will stay in the disc tray for a bit. Still just a touch more arcade-y than I care for, but it's good fun.
I've never gotten queasy playing a driving game before other than Nascar but this morning while trying out the GymKana things started to not look pretty for me. I think part of it was the fact that I couldn't see the left or the right side of the car and maybe it's time for a new TV. LOL
Too BIG would make things inconsistent. I play not because I love driving games, but to stay sharp. I will say the Logitech G27 is proving to be a lot better on D3!
I'll have to pick this up. Leaving work early today since I'm not feeling well. At least I'll have something to do to kill time.
Picked it up Tuesday and I'm damn sure not disappointed. I've got 0 rally experience so I can't compare it to the real thing, but it feels "real" enough to me. Definitely one of the most visceral driving experiences available on console/PC, in my opinion, without getting too arcadey or exaggerated. I'm all about Forza or GT...but the Colin McRae and DiRT series has always been the one I looked forward to most! Can't beat flying through the forest at breakneck speeds on gravel roads; it's almost attempted suicide
Anyone tried the online stuff yet? I'm still working through the normal seasons. Digging trailblazer stuff a lot, though I find myself seriously missing a co-driver. Slows me down quite a bit.
I tried it, those guys are blistering fast, I managed to stay about +2 seconds behind but that's about it when that part of my brain started drifting off about MNSubaru and that's all she wrote. Boo yeah! But it does really help to see how the other players lines and how they are putting their cars down.
I tried a couple time trials and gave up PDQ. I wish they'd let you pick a ghost other than the world record time. It's hard to learn anything from a ghost that's 15-20 seconds faster than you! Maybe I'll try online tonight. What platform are you on?
Honestly I really don't know, I just pick a car and just drive off into the sun. I feel like there much better throttle control on this version. I'm still practicing some of my techniques to get a better understanding of the physics they've incorporated into this release. Than I'll be switching wheels down to the G25 and will see where my comfort level's at. I don't know that I'll be able to get back into the hot seat tonight as I've made too many promises already and getting home late won't help either. It would be nice if we could redeem the codes and get past the first level of challenges.
I'm happy with it. The difficulty isn't really there but that's what online will be for when playstation finally gets their store up for us to redeem the code. Just wish I had a real wheel set up with a seat. I love how they brought head to head back though, that was my favorite in Dirt. Was upset they didn't have it in Dirt 2. For those on the PS3 my PSN is snwbdr94
I'm actually finding some challenge in the rally events as I figure out the nuances of their physics model. That's a nice change of pace from both past Dirt games and the original CMR where I was spanking the computer by 30+ seconds. Now I actually have to pay serious attention just to eek out a second or two lead over a full stage. I still annihilate everything in the other modes, but that's not what I bought the game for anyway. Oh, also, figured out how to download and run with any ghost on the leaderboards in the xbox version. Knocked 6 seconds off the first stage I was struggling with.
Sweet, I managed to talk my wife into driving last night so I got in a few attempts. On my cleanest run in Finland in Loeb's Citreon I got 2:34 in the advance mode with some minor tweaking with the car.
That's about where I am on the first finland timetrial in the ford, no tweaks. Can I ask what you used for setup?
