Hey guys I just got my BC Coilovers in from Josh (importimage) and I am planning on installing on Sunday. Anything I should look out for in the install or is it pretty straight forward? Also any idea about how long it takes? Thanks guys. O ya I just helped my buddy install coilovers in his GTI and it was a pain on the rears, so this is whay I asked how the WRX install goes.
If you've got a lift and the tools: 2 hrs. If you're jackstanding it and have limited tools: bring beer, i might take a few. Straight forward, but time consuming.
Its pretty straight forward. just dont try to force anything. if somthings not fitting, take a step back and look at possible solutions. when i installed my coilovers i tore the cv boot because i tried to force it:roll:
I installed my BC's with a buddy in 1.5 hours (I have installed a number of suspension sets before though - if you've never done suspension expect a longer time). watch out on the fronts - after you do the first one, if you don't disconnect the sway bar when you remove the strut from the other side it'll ram right into the cv joint and probably tear the boot (I put some shop rags over the boot and got by fine without tearing it or detaching the sway)
I've done maybe 10 of these and you dont need to disconnect the swaybar, just be careful when you lower the strut, Remove all of the lower clevis bolts first, then do the tops whith one person holding the bottom
I just did mine on Wednesday took me about 3hrs. Here are some helpful tips that helped me save time. -Install the coilovers with the default height and make a note of the difference between the stock and BC, ride setting, how many clicks. -Uninstall all the stockers and inspect your wheel well. -Use a floor jack to help assist with installation, for raising the hub. -To save some adjustment time after installing the Coilover at each corner, use the floor jack and jack up the car from underneath the tire up till its raised off the jack stand. This will help give you a realistic idea the ride height after lowering the whole car. The only thing I changed was the ride setting to the softest setting. Enjoy!
This is pretty dependant on the stiffness of the strut bar. i had difficulty with mine this year because the 27mm was so heavy in the front. in hindsight, i wish i would have removed the sway. if it's stock, don't worry about it.
Just an update got them installed no problem today. All in all it took us 4 hours which to me wasn't bad at all. I did have the strut come down and hit the CV boot alittle, but it didn't do any damage at all. After I wash my car I will post pics up. Also what do you guys running these BC's have your dampening set at? Thanks!
I have my BC's set at something like 9 clicks from full hard front and 7 rear (I was getting way too much bounce at softer settings at freeway speeds)
