Yup so im looking for some good coilovers.. any suggestions? i dont want to skimp out on suspension. My buddy has some bc racing coils that he likes, i was thinking about purchasing but i thought ild hit the forums first, thanks
depends on what you're going to do with your car. but you want decent ones.. look into GODSPEED... you want good one MEGAN/BC either street or track.. go with track..
I would consider brands like BC/Megan/Fortune/ISC/low end Tein to be decent, then Stuff like Tein/KW/RCE/AST/Bilstein/ect to be good coilovers. There are many cheap ebay brands out there that are junk. Just make sure you look into the warranty on the brand you buy, some are basically worthless some are 3 years+. I have BC BR Coilovers on my STi and they get the job done, but are pretty harsh for street driving. My WRX has ISC coilovers and I have been very happy with them so far as far as ride comfort, and performance.
Junk, much better product out there for the same price. What are you trying to do with your car? Improve your handling, or adjust your "stance"?
a little bit of both. love the look, handling is secondary for me but still would like to see an upgrade
Sometimes i feel like a broken record... Koni baby... Koni. Some Koni yellows and some GC sleeves makes an excellent cheap setup with great adjustability and expandability.
If you are mainly looking for a drop, just get some RCE yellow's and call it a day. Edit: If you are planning on driving your car year around you are not going to want to go with coilovers. The salt will f them up.
If you are going to.drive it year round you will.hate the rce yellows to. Man with a bit of ice buildup on roads it makes for a ruff ride.
Digging this up. I'm in the market for a suspension upgrade. Anyone have an opinion on modestly priced coilovers that are ideal for year round driving in Midwest weather conditions? If the winter conditions **** up ALL coilovers then that makes my decision much easier!
I believe some KW models (V3's) hold up pretty well against salt. I would have sleeved mine if I drove it in winter either way.
Winter pretty well ****s up most coil overs. The other aspect is trying to drive in low traction conditions with high spring rate coil overs will make the car incredibly twitchy, borderline dangerous. Just swtich. once you get used to it, it only takes a few hours.
What is your endgame? Are you looking for performance upgrades, drop, both? I am extremely happy with my GTWorx Bilstein set up. They are not adjustable, but have been engineered specifically for our chassis. Same price point as the budget coilovers with way better performance. I swap mine with a stock set up for winter. Really not a big deal. I can easily swap these out in a couple of hours.
What I'm going for is slight drop for aesthetics and improved handling for sporting driving and a track day here and there. I'm simply tying to upgrade from stock parts, but want to maintain a quality ride as my car will be used for trips and such. I don't necessarily need height adjustability I'd rather install and forget about it for the most part. I'm leaning towards Koni yellows and a good spring to match with it?
If it's daily driven, and you're concerned about ride, this is an infinitely better plan than a coil over setup.
i ended up with st coilovers, dms camber plates, and group n rear top hats. so far i love the setup, and am going to play with the alignment before i set it up completely.
Exactly this. You don't get both, comfortable ride negates performance feel and vice versa. The more performance you get the less comfort you'll likely have. If you daily drive the car and don't want your lower back to feel like someone jackhammered it during your commute home, but still want to have fun at occasional auto-x days, get a good OEM style spring and strut combo. If track/auto-x is your goal and you don't daily the car, go for the coilovers. Coilovers exist to fill a performance need. They are not designed to make your ride around town smooth and comfortable. I know this from experience, on curvy roads my car was great fun. On I94 through the twin cities it was annoying, loud, rough, and would make my back feel like crap after about an hour of driving.
