I am going with the nameless muffler delete now from the nameless 4" muffler. I am looking into supercharging the car so I'd like to have the best air flow possible. Is anyone running a straight pipe and had any issues with the police? I have a few friends that are straight piped and haven't had any issues. Anyone have a reason I shouldn't do it?
So you don't annoy the hell out of me? Man, I must be getting old. Get off my lawn! Seriously, AFAIK superchargers aren't as sensitive to exhaust backpressure as turbochargers are, so it might not even be worth it. I'm sure that someone else who's more familiar with superchargers could tell you for sure.
Non turbo engines are very loud without mufflers. Heck, they're very loud with a straight through style muffler. It often minimally takes a multi chamber muffler or a high flow muffler paired with a resonator (media filled, aka glass pack but not glass) to get the volume down low enough not to hear the car over a mile away. Turbo cars are exceptionally quiet in comparison.
Hey now. I never asked why... I ask because I'd love to see it done. And mainly interested to see HOW it would be done. Would be pretty wild.
See Kneel's BRZ! I've thought of supercharging the 3.3L RSVX. It's mainly just a dream of mine tho.(family trumps teh mad supercharged p0wahz)
Would be a DIY install from Raptor Superchargers. The guy who tunes my car is over in Australia and is a supplier for them and can get me a deal on one. Might give some of you a run for your money
Ah, I see. Wasn't picturing a "universal" serpentine style one for some reason. That seems pretty sweet. I see they've got a "kit" for Subaru engines. Does that include some mounting brackets or something? Also, do you just get a longer belt for one of the accessories? Would be cool to hear what a supercharged Subaru sounds like.
This is Gio's supercharged 3.6 Legacy. This is a water cooled setup, but they are also available without the water cooled option. They don't come cheap though, typically $4K-$5K, plus freight from Australia. Can make some nice HP with the H6. Tim @ Raptor is great, very helpful with stuff. I bought my headers from him, and he was very pleasant to deal with.
He's got it setup to a front mount inter cooler system now. Pretty sweet. Remember their prices are in AUD ($0.74 USDA = $1 AUD) I would be getting the kit for less than $3k. It's the XV kit, the one for the FB20. They claim it is compatible with the FB25
Ya got anything for straight-piped engines that are NOT 4-cylinders? Such as: Harleys Full-size V8 pickups
Harley: Gas powered lawn mower struggling to deal with owner's mom's pubic hair V8: butt-trumpeting ode to overcompensation for daddy loving you too much when you were young. Sweet home alabama.
If you plan on driving like a typical "I'm more mature than everyone else my age" 17 year old with an NA family sedan that has been outfitted with a bolt on supercharger and a 4" melon launcher, then there is a non-trivial risk of getting ****ed with for a straight pipe exhaust. What are your plans for the car once it's put together?
Is your car under warranty? Nothing you've said in here is doing things right. It cost money to do things right, save up and get the right parts instead turning a nice car into a junker.
I'm a great driver and not out there pissing people off being stupid or careless. Just my daily car. I'd like to take it to more shows, maybe a road trip or two every year to a Subaru show. I'd like to get an 06'-07' Impreza stick at some point but other than that, I just drive the Legacy. Does that answer your question?
I have over 30k miles on it. I'm not putting junk on the car. There's a few thousand into it already. Not the person to cut corners
My old daily was na with headers no cat and a resonator delete but I had a high flow muffler(straight pipe to a muffler) and I've been pulled over for the exhaust being too loud. Idk how well the factory na headers flow but more than likely that will be your choking point. Won't be increasing exhaust flow by much(if at all) by replacing aftermarket mufflers with a straight pipe. Plus you'll get annoyed rather quickly with how loud your exhaust has become especially on a daily driven vehicle. But at the end of the day it's your vehicle and you can do with it as you wish
You'd be better off doing one (or two) of these... http://www.siliconeintakes.com/dsm-...ric-exhaust-cutout-_-bypass-valve-p-9577.html
These guys are easier, mechanically boost actuated at about 6psi: http://loudvalves.com/collections/all
I'd say it's all up to you, but in reality, I don't think you'd gain very much by going straight pipe, besides being louder and pissing people off (if that's what you're into), and guaranteed hearing loss. Here's a thread on it from one of the Vette forums, where they probably know more about performance/tuning superchargers. http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...re-straight-pipes-bad-for-a-supercharger.html
There are plenty of mufflers out there that are loud and give you "gains." I have a Borla Hush on my 04 wagon, and I believe with proper mods, I could push 300+ hp through it. It pretty quiet, yet bass-y enough that you can hear it over a block away, if that's what you're into.
The headers on the car are very efficient. But, down the road I do plan to get headers. Trust me, I won't get tired of the exhaust noise
I know I wouldn't gain much but even with the 4" nameless axle back, until you got past 3k rpm the Subie rumble isn't there. With ought the muffler you can hear it throughout the entire powerband.
Because while you certainly are allowed to do whatever you want, I am allowed to think whatever I want. You have absolutely no need to straight pipe the car. Supercharging it isn't going to get you to the horsepower levels that you'd even need to begin to think about worrying over the measurable difference in flow between your muffler (which is already tiny, and a pass-through design to start with) and the pipe delete. In fact, you'll likely lose power getting rid of the muffler. No, because those cars are turbocharged, and therefore significantly more quiet when straight piped and not at full whack.
Absolutely. Derp makes a fair point about the turbo muffling the sound. I still think it's beyond obnoxious when jackholes run straight pipes. I couldn't care less what you think of the exhaust noise. It's inflicting it on everybody around you that makes it stupid.
