Topic 1: Get your hood wear on because we're taking photos of graffiti.

**Voting will be from April 22nd-29th**
Because of the lack of enteries, I am extending the contest submittal date until Friday (4/24/09) at which time voting will begin.

Rules:

1. READ THE RULES PLEASE!!!
2. ***Please E-mail or PM pictures to me and I will add them to the thread anonymously.*** Please provide a title and remove signatures that would give away the photographer. Feel free to watermark for copyright purposes. PM Me if you want my E-mail address
3. One entry picture per person allowed for contest.
4. Picture must be YOURS - and AGAIN- must be taken DURING the contest dates.
5. Photoshopping / alterations IS/ARE allowed.
6. Must follow forum rules (no NSFW, swearing, etc.)
7. Maximum file size: 800 x 800 pixels
8. Whoever wins the challenge must have new challenge posted by the last day of the previous month.
9. This is the discussion AND photo thread, yo.

If there is ANY question about the date that the picture was taken, the original image with the Exif information must be E-mailed to me. I would like to believe that all participants will honor the contest by not cheating and so far that has worked, so keep it up.

not all hosting is equal. photobucket kills off sharpness, contrast, vibrancy, saturation, etc. pretty annoying really. (pbase and smugmug are about the only 2 sites I found that didn't lose any quality of the original)

 

Photobucket won't mess with any of that if you upload it the correct size. It will kill images if they're over the size limit you/they have specified tho!

 

I do not believe that one bit. I was paying for the pro account and uploading 800x600 images and the quality was still diminished compared to the originals

 

But think of it this way - you're uploading an image. Upload it, then download it from there. Compare them on your computer.

They're still identical. A 1 remains a 1, a 0 remains a 0 in the grand scheme of things.

However, I know if you use the Photobucket editor, or even open it in the editor sometimes, then, well, your image is BORKED.

 

this is true. if you download the image back off photobucket it will match the original. however, what we care about is when you are looking at a hosted image. look at my example. can you not see the difference in quality between the two?

 

well allright, as long as it's free, it's 6 of one half a dozen of the other for me. Is the smugmug account free? I could have the nerd at my work host them on a temporary back door page on our website but that's a lot of work...

I could do that as well. Its easy for me.

 

your work must be weird. our work blocks all photo sites (mine is on it's own url so I can still access it since it doesn't think it's photo hosting :laugh

there really isn't much point in switching, I just like to jab at photobucket. After several years of paying for their top hosting I found it to be a huge waste of money. The quality loss is minor but annoying if you've edited for a certain look and then it comes out different online.


(I could put them on mine if you felt like switching)

I like the discussion here - hopefully lots of shooting pics this month! My work USED to ban pretty much everything, but they figured out how to block the kids that abused the internet, and let the people that could multi task view whatever we want. It's just me, another guy and the owner. :laugh:
