So a cop followed me to my gagrage last night and said I just wanted to let you know that you need to take your plate covers off. Apparently it is a law if they are covering up half of your tabs? I thought this was a little fishy. Is this true? I still dont understand why he didnt pull me over. Was he following me, just waiting for me to do something illegal?
When ever I have suspesion of a cop fallowing me for more then a couple blocks I go to the nearest gas station, store of some sort ect. That way if they are wanting to pull you over they do it then. Instead of fallowing you for ever.
Plate covers - yes illegal if it covers any of the of the information (state, license number, month, year [tabs]) even if that cover is clear
Wow. That is really lame. Im keeping them on there and if i get talked to about it again, I'll take them off. Caould he seriously not find anything better to do? For the love of god. He's just jelous of the Subie!
I was pulled over for a "dirty" license plate (when actually it was just sun glare), and he mentioned the same thing to me. "You can't have any frames on your plates." I'm like, wtf? Why do dealers put that crap on there then? My tabs were totally visible. The UMPD is laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.
+1 Except I will sometimes pull straight over on the side of the road immediately and make him pass or stop. If he stops I ask him directly why he is following me and stopping behind me. This usually gets them angry, so I wouldn't generally recommend it, unless that's the effect you want to have.
I ran a red today, and the cop had the green light as I brezed past. He did a u-turn and follwed me for 2 stop lights and did another u-turn. I figure he was out of time and didn't want any more paper work at the end of his shift. If I would have been in my wrx.... and not the wifes outback, I would have gotten a ticket for sure! MUY Rumbles!
I think they want something more serious when they follow for something stupid like a tab covered up or a red light run... They want to be that cop that busted the guy with loads of MEF in his car.

how about if you sell it by the pound and remove some parts, then it is not a whole person and ebay should have not problems with that.:yumyum: (FDA has condemed human meat for consumtion):eek3: ohhh noess... no sale buddy!!! answer: don't keep the cop, just ask him if he would like to rake your lawn for 5 dollars so he can make some real money while he is staring at you!
He was probably running your plates! (and that I thought was illegal unless they have a reason to) This happends to me alot. They speed up and run my plates and then back off for a few and then find a reason to pull me over or just whip a u-turn and go about their business. Just the other week I noticed my plate light was out. Bulbs got replaced and that didn't fix it. So we checked the tunk. Turns out that a year ago when I had some damage fixed on my car the place forgot to plug the little wire back in after they removed my bumper. Talk about luck! I can't believe I went a whole year w/out getting pulled over for that!
I was pulled over for this same type of plate surround business, no front plate and window tint...all in the same pullover...and the trooper supposedly saw it while he was finishing up writing a ticket to another guy. This is a dumb rule as is the front plate...oh wait, the tint is a joke too, but that's been covered way too much on here.
My friends have been getting hassled regularly about the front plate missing. in my car club alone, three guy who swore they'd never put their front plates on... well , now they have them in place. It seems no one in our club wants to pay the fine to fit the crime. Also, speeding tickes are down in our car club, and no one has been going to BIR to race, not a soul at autoX.... Seems no on ehas the monies to do these things, let alone drive around with a "kick me sticker" like a loud exhaust, or a missing front plate. Do you think the police are enforcing these thinkg now to make monies off the fines to fund the presints or what ever?
I got nailed in Coon Rapids for my buddy's shop sticker in the rear window of my car last week, it's a banner type sticker across the top of the window that does not impede vision at all. The ****ter of it is is that I now know it is illegal to have any kind of stickers or film on the rear window of a car other than tint, but if you have a pickup/van/limo/hearse you can put what ever the hell you want on there. So advertising for my friends business on my car is illegal, but the douche I regularly see on my end of town with the big ass rebel flag/mud slut sticke is just fine.
I don't think they're given tickets just for the sole purpose of making $$ from the fines. It's the law. This is just something you need to remember when You drive around with a loud exhaust, dark tint or no front plate. Yes, some of the laws are kinda silly but most of them were made many years ago. And when times changes the laws can get out dated. However, this doesn't mean that its okay to break the law. Getting a ticket is the price you pay for breaking the law. Don't think I'm one not to break some laws. But I don't blame others for my decisions when I know I'm breaking the law by tinting my windows too dark or setting off car alarms with my loud exhaust. And I agree, big trucks or bikes with exhaust so loud that it makes my ear drums bleed and this is okay with cops bothers me too. Or that fact that suvs can have tint so dark that you cant see out at night is cool but a "import car" with dark tint is a big no, no. I understand why the dark tint is an issue but if it's for the safety of our police force then it should be an all around limit that is equal for suvs and cars.
Rochester had a big deal about the tint when that doctor got shot in the face in the back seat of his suv a few years ago. It was pretty well enforced for everyone.
Plate frames that obscure the state name, tabs, or numbers are illegal. Any plate coverig, including clear that impedes visiblity or reflectivity are also illegal. Yes, this is all of them. Uhm, no. Lemme guess: SPB? He'll cite the big ass rebel flag. He'd cite you for having a big sticker that says "I love cops." That's how he does it. Show up to court with it fixed, and it's a $50 dismissal. Unless you're an *******. Ignorance of teh alw is no excuse. Oh and it's illegal to have thsoe stickers on the back of any vehicle (except law enforcement vehicles). trucks and such get an exemption for tint, but not stickers Oh and i dont' want to get into it, but if a hit and run driver gets caught, it's likely because of a front plate. They're a good thing.
