Hwy 16 westbound out of La Crosse, WI to Spring Valley, MN is quite a zesty drive. Can't wait to do it again when dry and with summer tires.

There is one most excellent decreasing radius uphill RH (heading west) that is fantabulous. Had to retake it a few times. Not much between that final climb up to the cornfields and Spring Valley.

Hmm, I never noticed that one before. A mile or so out of town, we have Hwy 108 between West Salem and Mindoro. Hwy 162 South of Bangor is quite nice, too. There are a bunch of hidden gems in this area, and the scenery is great. :rock_fist:

I think I've driven this once - hwy 108 very tight corners (15mph "recommended" speed) with sheer cliffs. Very nice, but kinda scary!

Still nothing compared to driving the catskills ... but it comes close sometimes.

That's the one, with the big cut in the rock at the top. Only a couple miles form the house, too. Haven't been on it in a while - waiting for the sand and water from the melt to clear off.

I used to go to school in LaCrosse, but I only had a neon then. I've only driven on 108 when my car was stock - of course, last fall when I drove in the coulee's I put my car in the ditch.

Wasn't that a combination of road hazard and distraction though? I'm pretty sure you know enough now to handle clear tarmac just fine. Besides, I'm sure you'll have friends to pull you out

I'll call, and up you one... Just about any state hiway in the Colorado Mtns.

Used to live in Leadville and worked at Copper Mtn. We used to call the ~20mi drive to Copper the "Copper Coast" as we would regularily hit 120mph in my old VW Fox (at 9000'!) as there was a stretch of ~8% grade that went on for over a mile. Everywhere else was twisty with no guardrails! Runs down to Independence Pass were a blast, too...Berhoud Pass over to Winter Park! Mmmmmm

...on the other hand, the car would be lucky to hit 40mph going back up the hill in the evening (typically 2 of us and a keg in the back!).

14 West out of Fort Collins (or the other way) is epic
I always go through it when i'm driving to CA
Last May, i chased a WRX to Walden at speeds I won't admit to on an internet forum (oh and my car was full of crap, the trunk was literally full and the back seat was loaded up to the window line) ;)

Oh and then there's the roads in NorCal. But If i talk about them, i'll get depressed. CA-36 is like the best alphabet road, but 150 miles long with no traffic. :yumyum::laugh: :(
    (And 99% CHP free)

hell no. I honestly have never been so scared in my life.

and i have to correct myself. it's highway 9 over boreas pass, not boreas pass road...they are different. one is a highway and the other is a dirt road.

I think Hwy 24 from Leadville to Vail is one of the scariest roads I have been on... Although I have never been over Mosquito Pass, it is a (dirt) road direct from Leadville to south of Breck. Unfortunately, it is only open in the summer. :(

"it's highway 9 over boreas pass, not boreas pass road" Figured so as the 'road' is only about 5mi long (and as you mentioned, dirt)... ;)

The scariest road is the Road to Hana (aka the Road to Annulment) on Maui. Nothing but blind corners, wet broken asphalt, incessant mud/rock slides and tourists in RWD V8 Camaro rentals driving way too fast (me).
