2 weeks ago on a friday night prob around 11pm I was driving my 08 Wrx on 694 going East was in 4th gear prob sitting around 3k RPM's,(forgot to upshift) but didn't pay attention I was trying to watch the ice and other cars. I made the stupid mistake the pass a snow plow... well not knowing that I was already sitting that High in the RPM's I punched the gas and hit some good boost and the back end slid out. Behind me was the snow plow (2 car lengths behind) and behind him was a semi. My car was spinning all over the road I prob could have spun out on the road, but with a semi and other cars going 55 - 65 behind you, you can stop in the road or I would have been hit forsure. So I pointed the car towards the median and smacked it... After calling about 10 people Nuke picked me up sense I live in St.paul and all my friends live in farmington and burnsville and were asleep. Car ended up getting totaled out for about 17200. I owe 11404 on it still so I will get the remaining and am now looking into some new cars.
Thats crazy the air bags didnt go off... Glad you're alright! On another note to "lighten" the mood, did anyone think of the scene in Top Gun where he says "Crashed and burned.. huh Mav?" when they read the title of the thread?
if all goes well I should have a new car within the next few days. And actually right before we crashed I did tell the people in the car to "brace for impact" lol
sorry already got a car on the mind and the money is already in order. also i cant afford a 30k+ car haha
It looks like you hit the barrier at an angle, if so that's probably why the bags didn't deploy. Were you sliding sideways as well as forward? In other words, when the car transitioned towards the barrier did it still have some momentum in the direction of the road?
Read through the "What did you do to your Subaru today" thread. Pete is convinced that all black cars are cursed and will inevitably require an engine rebuild.
That's probably why the bags didn't go off. There is a very specific set of parameters that have to be met before the bags will deploy. Hitting at an angle is one thing that can negate the deployment as it can cause injury or even ejection. Also, I'm guessing that the actual impact speed was below the threshold for deployment. Glad to hear you're ok, have fun with your new ride!
Which is why I won't let Pete near my car. I think Pete is the cause of the black curse, not the victim. Ok, the lousy Subaru pistons might also be a factor, but I want to blame Pete.
as sad as it is... the old car that i crashed.... well after I bought it last year within 2 weeks I had to have the whole engine rebuilt, it had a cracked piston and a lot of blow by, but no this new one wont need a engine re built lol
To be fair, it's not that I'm convinced. It's merely a matter of supporting empirical evidence. *sigh* No problem, I'm married, bring it on...
that or maybe it means own the road...with snow tires on, but they left that part out. Thanks man, beaucoup egard!
I can agree with the black car phenomenon. Mine is more like a black hole where all my time, money and resources get sucked right into the engine bay never to be seen again!
