Like was said in the many nasioc posts: I feel bad for the kid, but 120 mph, straight road, middle of the night, hit a tree... that just goddamn reckless and out of control. He went from having a few kicks to blatantly endangering anyone else on that road. Darwinism. He's lucky he didn't take anyone else with him. And he is responsible for all WRX owners getting extra scrutiny from the cops and having higher insurance rates.
^What Zak said. But really, there is not point to drive 120+ unless your on the track, damn skeet racers usually dont get that fast.
it is worth adding that this is what he was trying to jump: this is the tree: This is the bridge from a distance This is clearly an unsafe road to do 120 on. He is very lucky he didn't kill anyone else. There are roads like this in the countryside in the blue ridge mountains in VA where my parents live and to be honest, 60 on them feels like 120 on a racetrack becuase ther're chock full of weird pavement/elevation variances, narrow as hell and mostly blind turns. Note that there arent any skidmarks anywhere, and you can't test a pile of burnt, pulverized ex human goo for a blood alcohol level.
So sad to see something like this happen. I know everybody makes mistakes and obvioulsy this one cost this young man's life, such a tragedy.
probably. he was fromt he area and drove there often. It's hard to believe from the OP on nasioc's comments that he didn't know it was there. He had bragged near an undercover state patrol officer about how his car was capable of anything. It really is quite saddening and sobering but I consider the fact that if there was anyone else on that road, the poor guy would have murdered them too, and that just plain isn't good.
re92s may suck, but it's no excuse for doing 120 where you shouldn't be doing 120. but hey, look on the bright side.... somewhere out there, there's a pair of 2 pot calipers and rotors, and at least 1 4-pot!
A tree is a lot stronger than most people think. The roots hold them in place very well, and between the weight and the fact that they're sunk into the ground like that they hold up under impacts surprisingly well. The cuts on the C and B pillars were probably the FD cutting through to try and get the body inside. That'd have been an ugly extrication/recovery. I also agree, if you get killed doing something stupid like that, there's no pity from me. You should know that you're just asking Fate to boot your posterior region into the Great Beyond just doing something like that. If I end up buying the farm doing something stupid like that, I want each and every one of you to call me a dumbass at my funeral.
Well it was probably pretty quick. I'm the first to admit I've done dumbass things in my life and feel lucky that I'm still here. As was said earlier, it's a good thing nobody else was hurt.
i really wish i would think of this next time i do something stupid in my car, i just dont think i will tho
any one of you guys who do something that stupid on this board and live to tell about it. i will personally come over and kick your butt once more. we're all good family in this board/forums. at least the ones that comes back and post. i wouldnt like to see a family member in that way.
