Day of Shenanigans on Lake Minnetonka!! 2/23/08

Day of fun on lake Minnetonka!!

I will be hosting a full day of shenanigans out on Lake Minnetonka in front of my house starting at 10:00am on Saturday the 23rd, that's next Saturday. For those who come, there will also be roofing - that's when we hook the roof off an old civic up to a rope and pull it behind a one of our cars...like tubing only 100x sweeter. Also, I'm still not sure, but there's a possibility I'll fire up the grill and cook up some food if enough people come.

We'll all be meeting in the parking lot of Mound Bay Park at 9:30am and will head out around 10:00am. The address of the park is 5701 Bartlett Boulevard, Mound, 55364.

Update:
Looks like we got enough people for the BBQ part to happen. There will be burgers and hot dogs free for the hungry. =D

We will be on the lake in a bay away from any public access points.

It is a drive at your own risk event because it is on a LAKE!

We should most defiantly get a grill out there FOOD is good!.

 

Who are the lake Minnetonka police and why have i never met them?

 

Yeah, I'll get the grill cleaned up and whatnot. Oh I forgot to mention, if we get tired and need to take a break there's always the beach house, I'll stock up the fridge with pop and water and fire up the heat on Friday.

id be there if i didnt work. just so you know the speed limit on forzen lakes is something like 15mph

 

THAT!--15-20 mph max..and yes many many many many many people i know have and do get pulled over all the time! I lived on minnetonka on excelsior bay and know the rules quite well...still if you do you will have tons of fun...not meaning to shun..I would if I felt safer out there!

 

it just like a meet you don't have to do shenanigans. Its just on the lake so people will. .Should be some good food and drink.

Only thing about that is I'm pretty sure normal cops have no jurisdiction out there. I got pulled over a couple years ago by a Deephaven cop as I was pulling off of the lake after a good session of driftage and he actually had to go call the station to see if he could do anything. He came back like 10 minutes later and told me he couldn't do anything because I was far enough from shore and ice houses for him to be able to ticket me.

Either way my bay is pretty much cut off from any actual road or boat launch, so it'd take a neighbor to call in on us, and they're pretty cool so I doubt that's gonna happen.

 

Sherriff definitly does (I know this because I've had tickets from them from Lake stuff in Anoka, but not due to driving)
City police depends on how the borders work. I sort of doubt they do on lake Minnetonka. thats in terms of jurisdiction. Actually Minnesota LEOs can write tickets anywhere in the state normally.

That said, keep it away from the shore and other people and its basically tolerated, i think.

Do note that if somehow you were hit someone uninvolved in shenanigans, they would nail your balls to the wall. That said, if you're careful, I doubt that would be an issue.
The key is to not go drifting around corners not knowing whats behind them

Granted all this **** applies to group drives people do in the summer on ABC roads in many cases, and no one cares that much then. (They may soon, local sherriffs in both states are cracking down on group drives after some nasty accidents and local complaints)

That said, i'd be sketchier with the details. People involved in law enforment locally DO read this and other local forums. You are being watched.

 

wow. You must live really close to me based upon your address. I think it would be a blast to go out on the lake however, I am afraid of teh popo.

From what I recall the lakes are the DNRs juristiction and they are incharge of issuing any tickets. However I still would not feel safe on tonka. There are far to many people around (during the day) and things easily brought attention to. Good luck! I am saving my fun for Rich's

 

I was out there today after work. As long as your away from ice houses no one cars. Even had people come join me.

 

I would go for sure. Play it safe and it will be fine. The grill part would be awesome. I can bring pop!

 

Remember that snowmobiles can be charged with reckless under 84.87 sub2, yet they do quite a bit out on the lake.

The key is just be far away from people who might care. Oh and don't friggin broadcast where you'll be ahead of time *hint, hint OP*

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, if anybody has knee pads or knee/shin combo pads or something, they'd really come in handy for riding on the roof.

 

I got that one covered, though if you'd like to bring your own go for it.
