When I am in say 3rd gear and let off the gas as my rpm drops I get a funky noise, but if I touch the break, gas, or clutch it instantly goes away. Anyone know anythign about this.

BTW, it is on a 02 stock wrx

if its still under warrenty, have the dealer check it. It should be covered under your driveline.

Nowhere near enough info to help....What does it sound like? "Funky noise" is no help when determining root cause. Where does it come from? When you say "touch" are you referring to resting your foot on the pedal or pushing it? The more description you add...the more likely you will get useful help.

it alsmost sounds like a vibration of the heat shield but I checked those and they are not lose. also the noise sounds like it is coming from the lower engine/ transmission area. In terms of touching the pedals it as soon as I start to apply pressure to them the noise goes away.

So it doesn't sound internal to the tranny?

If not, could it be under the dash? Being that the pivot point for both pedals is there, it would be a logical start.

The trick is to find out what the clutch and brake have in common... Other than under the dash or through the firewall, I don't think they share anything... however, they are both mounted to the firewall (brake booster and clutch cylinder). Don't know where else to point you, sorry.

this might not help, but on the ford crown vics, the one i drive at work, there was a similar problem with the car. it turns out that the oil pump needed to be replaced... this might or might not help you at all... had nothing to do with the exhaust, thought it did sound like the heat shield was rattling.
