So I'm driving home from work, a 40 min drive, and I see two different groups of deer along the way. Nothing unusual, the first group even had one try to run out in front of me but i stopped well before hitting him (nice size buck). I get to withing 10 miles of town and out of nowhere a doe runs straight for me, I hit the brakes and swerve, would have missed her but not by much, so she decides she needs to turn around and go back into my path, I hit her back leg at about 20mph right in the headlight (still got some ass hair there, will sell to highest bidder) and end up caving in my headlight + grill piece. I would have missed completely but deer don't believe in running away from fast moving thing which are bigger than them. 14 years of driving and I finally hit my first deer. Just had to b**ch.

On a related note, I may be in the market for a drivers side headlamp / grill piece once i check out the damage. Nothing looks broke but from the way it sits the headlight mounts may be toast.

Sorry to hear that Josh. Deer are generally pretty cautious, but it doesn't help when they're scared, at night and "in the rut". I'm going to be sighting in my rifle this weekend - getting ready for the hunt...

Thanks Pat. Yeah it's that season when the deer get crazy.
If you happen onto a slow moving med size doe north of town...

I had the same thing happen in my old silver RS. I was lighting a cig and all of a sudden I see eyes about a foot from my drivers window...just about soiled myself. Deer ran straight into my drivers door....took off my mirror dented the door and fender on the drivers side and took a $hit all down the side of my car.

Years ago a friend of mine had a deer run straight into his quarter panel. the deer trashed the hood, 1/4, door and sh*t down the side of the Camaro. The best part was when his insurance told him not to wash the crap off the car until they could take pictures and somebody would be out in a week or so.

Isn't it deer mating season right now? That probably explains why they're out running around into traffic. Also, I think they like the light beams that cars project onto the street which explains why they run to oncoming cars at full speed.

Well, it is hunting seaon, so if you had 500000000 people running after you with guns and bows, you would probably run out into traffic too.

    True story.

A couple years ago I was driving down a country road. Ha d 1 car in front of me about 200 yards. I see the car start to brake and next thing I know I see this brown thing go flying 10-15' above the car. The thing lands and gets up.

At this point i'm pulling up to about 30 yards behind this car now. The deer runs to the front of the car in the other lane. It then turns around and runs directly over the hood of the car and falls off of the windshield on the drivers side and continues to run down the dotted white line past my car and then hangs a right into a field.

I got out of the car amazed and laughing my ass off at what had just happened. I went up to the other car and 2 guys got out to inspect the damages. First thing I said was that is the funniest thin I have ever seen! Needless to say the driver wasn't as amussed as I was. But **** if that wasn't crazy. I'm really suprised the deer survived the collision and the fall from it landing.

I also can't wait to go deer hunting. I need some meat!!

Well, I inspected everything the other day and I will need a new headlight because the arm that connects to the grill is snapped twice, and new retainers. Kinda lucky there I suppose. The next question is whether to buy a replacement or go to projectors?
Also if anybody wants the old headlight let me know.

I had the same problem with my bugeye, hit a turkey, broke the headlight mount thingy that goes into the grille. I ended up having to buy a new headlight, but this was maybe 3 years ago when bugeye lights were a bit harder to come by used.

I am leaning that way right now. If I do then I need to decide whether to paint them or not too. I was thinking about matching the color either to the body or the panel around the fog light. Thanks for the vote Vic! :)

    close call

I was just on a quick trip to iowa down 52 south"fyi"the most amazing stretch of road i've ever driven in the rex" and i split the uprights! Had a doe and buck come dashing out of the woods, was doing about 85mph around some sweet corners:yumyum:. I hit the brakes just hard enough to duck under the does back legs, could see the buck out of the corner of my eye, he was b-lining straight for my passenger door, hit the gas and blew right between them:cool: . close call, made me feel like damn pimp to thread the needle like that! They didn't ruin the fun though, i just shrugged it off and hit the gas, those corners are to much fun to pass up:biggrin: ! anyway, long story short, DEER ARE DUMB!!!
