Which is why I'm saying it should be able to handle the extra air like the Nissans do.

You don't get it, do you.

It's not the extra air that skews the MAF readings, but the change in the piping that it's sitting in. The MAF is designed to basically read the velocity of the air blowing past it and throw a voltage.

Think of it this way -- you have two pipes, one that is identical to the stock setup, and one that is the size of a sewer pipe.

Now let's run a certain amount of air through our stock setup -- let's say 200 cfm (cubic feet per minute). Since we have a stock setup, the ECU is tuned to deal with this situation and the MAF will throw a voltage that the ECU corresponds to 200 cfm.

Ok, now put in the sewer pipe intake and run 200 cfm of air through it again. Since the diameter of the pipe is larger, and since we are running the same amount of air per minute through it, we will see that the air passing through the tube WILL BE SLOWER IN VELOCITY. As a result, the MAF will throw a lower voltage, and the ECU WILL THINK THAT LESS AIR IS GOING INTO THE ENGINE. Now our engine will be running lean.....

i would stay with stock sized maf tube sizes untill you actually start running out of maf voltage headroom.

although you can tune for a larger maf, driveability is adversly effected. expecially if you are running ****ty injectors like me. :/

    Okay, here's another tech's opinion.

DON'T BUY AN AEM! If you must buy a cold air, or keep one installed, stay away from AEM. If you must keep your CAI on, put a pre filter on it to prevent water entry, and make it easily cleanable from road grime and such. If I were you, I would go back to stock, or buy a short ram such as the Blitz SUS, or Cobb Shorty.

An opinion would be you saying, "I think AEM is a good company, and don't understand why people are giving them a bad rap."

Flame-baiting is "Yeah, AEM sucks, they are just a sh1tty company in general (sarcasm)"

One states an opinion that you have of a company, the other one is sarcasm and serves no other purpose than getting people irritated. It also doesn't add to the conversation at all since no one attacked AEM as a company.

Driftin240, being a subaru technician, stated that AEM CAIs are the worst intakes for WRXs, I'm sure he is speaking from experience and also based on research he has done on other forums such as Nasioc, ClubWRX, or I-Club on the topic. Your *sarcasm* at the end of your post indicates that you might think otherwise, but instead of backing up your statements with reseach, facts, or proof, you are simply flame-baiting...or trying to start arguements and get people irritated.

Is this MAF sensor only a Subie thing, or does it go for any import w/ a MAF? I know you guys said that a 99 MAF off of a Subie was the same of one from a Nissan, and does it only apply to Boosted cars???

i was speaking in general terms. the maf off of a wrx its different, but most N/A subaru's and nissans after 1999 share the same maf...funny thing is, 99's have the recall
