We are happy to announce that Derek has joined the Arrows Kart Factory race team out of Australia. He will be racing the Florida Winter Tour Series running in the Rotax Max class. The first race will be this weekend at Homestead Speedway. Derek's teammate is David Serra Arrows factory driver from Australia. In practice today Derek was running lap times around 49.1 putting him in the top 5 for lap times, this was done using old tires, we expect to drop .3 of a second with new tires. Fast time of the day was turned in by Derek's teammate who ran a 48.7. The track is great with long straights where the karts get up to 90mph. The grip level is also good, so far we have pulled up to 3.4gs in the tight stuff. The event will be covered live on line at http://www.floridawintertour.com/fwtlive/index.php Also for more information goto http://www.floridawintertour.com/news/article.php?id=151 Here are a few pictures of Derek in his new ride.
I am glad to hear you guys are back on track for another fun season of Karting. I would be interested in reading a write up on what Derek's experience has been like in a Shifter Kart. I have never been in one, I think it would be a total hoot to drive in one, none the less around a track with some elevation. Keep us entertained with the updates. And when are you going to be back in town so we can have another SIM party at your place. LOL
That is so cool! I can't wait to watch the coverage. Looks like they will covering the practice session live, starting at 11:45 a.m. our time, at the link above. Go Derek! Amy sniff' I remember when he was just a wet behind the ears rallycrosser, or would that be dirt beind the ears?
No we won't, they changed the rules and wanted 25k by Jan 9th. This is not the time to ask sponsors for money. So unless someone has a boatload of money they want to send us then were going to stick with karting.
