My turbo(stock td04) seems to making a 'choppy' sound. The swoooooshh just doesn't sound 'smooth' anymore. Car seems to be a bit slow on the butt dyno, not terribly. But, it doesn't feel like it pulls as hard.

For all I know it has 142k miles on it. Otherwise somewhere north of 30k.

Anyone have a td04 laying around to get rid of?

has your exhaust gotten any louder as well? When my turbo exhaust flange bolts started to back out, the turbo sounded "choppy" while it was spooling.

But, does that sound pretty much mean the turbz is on its way out? That is the main question.

Hmmm Matt, I dunno. What in the turbo can go bad? Just off my general knowledge<<not much...I really thought the only thing that can crap out on a turbo is the bearing? And I don't know what that would sound like. Is it noticably noisy from the turbo area of the engine bay? Maybe something else is causing the sluggishness....could be your "butt-dyno" needs to be recalibrated!!

my car has 80k on it and the turbo kinda does the same thing as yours. i brought my car into mike wrays shop a month or so ago and he told me, before i even asked, that my turbo was going bad and i'd need a new one soon. my car still boosts good when i'm driving down the highway but when i jump off stop lights it seems to have trubles boosting quickly.

I just pulled my td04 out this weekend. It was on my 02 wagon with 73k on it. I guess I don't really know what to check for on it besides shaft play and I couldn't feel anything with my hand trying to move it.

Let me know if your interested and I will get some more specifics for you.

oh if you know someone with almost the same exhaust and setup then see if you notice a difference with the sound of the turbo in the exhaust... me and angusracer compaired exhaust notes and his turbo is way louder through his exhaust than mine:emo:

Well, I'm actually looking at 20g's. Have the FMIC in the basement, inectors waiting to be modded. Sucks I have to get a td04, but its much cheaper than a 20g.

I've got a wedding in 5 months so I can't go all nuts right now. Plus, I want to get a new 257 block. Plus, I need new suspensionz, my shocks are shot and since I'm doing that I want to get some group N top mounts. I just can't keep up!!:emo:

have you considered trying to source a vf39? i see them in the 250-350 area on nabisco.....

all you need are the injectors...you have. (after modding of course), pump, and the turbo...

Total purchase of my turbo, rebuild kit and labor totaled about $360. If just looking at rebuilding, price may be about $300...i.e. TurboEnterprize.
