I'm planning to dump comcast and can't choose between direct or dish. Any pros or cons on those two company.
both are good but it all depends on the installer and also your location. i have worked for dish for two years and i knew many direct tv installers that i have trained and talked to. what kind of programming are you getting, hd or regular? cause that will matter too. from my experiences most of direct tv installers are hacks jobs but we have subs too except most of the jobs are done by dish employees. if you go with dish make sure you get a dish installer and not a sub! thats my advice for now. good luck. also direct has better signal usually cause they aim at 1 sat in the sky.
If you want HD, Directv is the way to go. Either choice will give you a better picture then Comcast though.
I used to have DirectTV, and was very happy with it. We have Comcast now, but I've really grown to hate them. Once we get an HDTV, we'll switch, but for now our dual-tuner analog TiVo (modded to ~400hr) would be fairly useless with a dish setup. I know my in-laws used to have Dish, and they had a lot more options for programming from outside of the US.
and yes i do like my dish too! especially when i got camping. i can get dish just about anywhere i want especially since i know the equipment and how to used/aim it!
Are you folks getting the local channels in HD off the satellite up there? We only have SD for now. I'm pretty happy with DirecTV - we've had it since, oh, 2002 or so when we lived in Atlanta. No major gripes. The minor ones are loss of signal during bad storms (that's when you catch up on DVR stuff), and no local HD.
