Anyone ever been brave enough to take apart the 04/05 WRX/STI headlight yet? I heard you have to bake them in the oven to get them apart. Was thinking of getting the orange out. Vic, you in to do this? Anyone else?
You can use the oven, or you can just use a heat gun. I used a heat gun when I pulled apart my lights on my wrx. It just takes a bit longer to pull apart. Russ

Matt and I have talked about it last winter but never got around to it. Instruction is here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=384488 I am interested!
I cleared out the lights on my 04 it's alot easier to do it with a heat gun, than it is to do it with an oven. I have a heat gun at home if you want to come over and do it. -Chris
Kalifornia Kid, would you be willing to help me out in doing this? I know this is extremely short notice, but I'm available all day Saturday. If that doesn't work I completely understand since its only a few days away. If not, when are you available. I'd supply some food and beer/pop.
I'd be happy to help, but Saturday I'm hoping to work on my car, we have up pipe and down pipe to install along with KYBs and Springs so that will take most of the day. Do you have any other days when you can do it? give me a call on Saturday anyways just incase plans change. 612 669 0669
I like the last tool on the tool list: YOU NEED: 10mm socket wrench or ratchet flat head screwdriver jewelers flathead or small flat head phillips head screwdriver an oven and baking tray and hot mits/pot holders a small amount of testicular fortitude --------------- Once you take them apart and the seal is broken do they leak? Or water condence in there?
Chris and Will, when ever you two make this happen. Let me know, I'd like to work on mine as well. Thanks!
Yeah I don't think I'll be able to do it Saturday, maybe sometime during next week after work or something, it doesn't take long to do it, maybe an hour.
Ok I should have time to do this tonight so if you guys still want to do it give me a call 612 669 0669 and I'll give you direccions.
Thanks to Chris and a thanks to his wife for the food and doing this for me. You guys are the best. We got it done, and since I have the 05 I have the black housings. Looks great with the black car. I can't thank Chris enough for everything. I kinda' sat there while he did all of it (1st time even attempting to work on a WRX/STi). I tried to help. :I I took a pic in his garage but it turned out really really blurry. I'll have to take another one tomorrow.
would anyone be whilling to help me out with this mod? i guess i dont have the balls to mess with tearing these bad boys apart
Chris is da Bomb... I got my lights worked on this afternoon. I can't believe the difference it makes the car now. A big thanks, I couldn't have done it without Chris expertise!

The only time I have to do this is tonight Wednesday, I'll be gone all weekend. Call if you want to do it tonight.
I can do this now also since I've experienced it first hand... it's not that bad once you've been exposed to it. Just need an oven or a heat gun plus a tube of black silicon sealant and of course tools. Those with 04 Impreza in general... maybe we can do a garage event just to clear out the amber piece

Hi.Im new here so i dont know if you already have the clear out garage event.I wuold like to clear mine, but i dont have any experience and also im not that handy.Let me know if anybody is up to help.Thanks.
hey fuel, welcome. i'm pretty new here too. I might be interested in doing this with a couple other people if someone who has done it before can guide us along (in person.) I'm also curious to know if anyone has found (or would even know someone who can manufacture) the side reflectors in clear - i'd love to do this and get rid of the amber bits, but would hate to give up the street security of those side reflectors... anyone have any ideas? these can't be extremely expensive to make... but then what do i know

quote:
Originally posted by KaliforniaKid I can probably do it next Friday night.

cool, e mail me [email protected] and let me know for sure. OK so whoever wants to get this done come over to my place this Friday night and we can get them all done. Just give me a call for direccions 612 669 0669.
KaliforniaKid - thx for the offer. I'm going to wait a bit though, not 100% sure which way I want to go yet. I'd still like to find a 'clear' (white) side reflector and will probably go the silvered amber bulb route too, prefer to do it all at once and not sure I want to do it yet... If I don't have any conflicts this Friday night, do you mind if I come along and just observe the process?

You can't do it to the tail because the yellow part is part of the tail light so there isn't anything you can pull...

Yeah no problem, I would like to get started around noon, it takes about 45 minutes for each light. With help it goes even faster. Just call me tomorrow so we can coordinate a time.
