My dad works for Cummins, in charge of quality at the Fridley plant. He also gets sent out to look at, trouble shoot problems and determine root cause failure. This week he was sent to look at 60 Liter, yes 60 liter V16 engine for a 1400KWe generator. Google uses 14? of these generators in Georgia as backups to power their servers in case of a power failure. Well some one in Daventry, UK put a cam bearing in up side down. Which spun sending shards of the bearing every where causing the valve to stick open and smack the ~7" diameter piston.

Do you think any one heard the knock?

yes, along with any other damaged components. Done on site, to large to move. When your customers spend close to a million dollars on a gen set they had to order a year in advance you try to get it up and going asap if it fails. This gen set is the small of the big gen sets. There is also a 91 liter V18.

To respect just how big these are here is a video of 4 being moved into Texas.

I love seeing the tractor being torqued to the passenger side as they try to pull the load up the grade.

Yeah the one we moved had a bridge built leaving the green zone. The story isn't exactly true, we escorted it from the green zone to the power station. Took ALL night to make the normally 10min drive.

We were going to be responsible for about 100km of the move from the northern section of our Bde's AO to the southern. (Basically from just south of Bayji to the south side of Samara). We did all the surveying and made all the plans and then watched the mission get delayed, delayed, and finally canceled. As far as I know it didn't end up happening.

    gotta love it!

thankfully while I was there I was the commander's driver. This means I drove a ****-ton, but it meant I didn't sit at IP stations to get ambushed.....so I just got hit with IED's and ambushed while driving

During the BAG mission (Big Ass Generator) I was rabbiting for the Marine security convoy, fresh in country first mission was to drive this thing from Turkey to Baghdad.

Was funny when four light skinned (M998) trucks of marines got out a head of us and turned down a dead end frontage road. They put the wagons in a circle and started looking at the map. We rolled up with escort truck in tow, and my gunner yells... "Let's Go!!!" They just look and go back to the map. I slam into park jump out, and find the squad leader....

Me-you guys seriously need to unass this ao.
Marine-well we are trying to find the route.
Me-That is why you follow the guy that lives here.
Marine-Can you show me where we are?
    Me-Ever hear of Sadr City?
    Marine-Yeah it's a bad place.
Me-Yeah... you see those lights over there? (pointing to other side of freeway)
    Marine-Yah
    Me-May I introduce Sadr City.
Marine Driver-Oh ****... let's get out of here.

I run back to my truckl they follow.

As we roll out mortars started to impact.
