This might be a really dumb question... but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. I am going to order a new 2010 WRX, so I am not taking one off the lot. I only want to pay for the few options I want. I also have access to a program that gives me dealer invoice so I can't really price shop (the program forbids it). From what i understand there really isn't anyone that is going to give me a better price anyways... because i am going to order the car with the stuff i want on it. since it is not on the lot they really can't cut me a deal (from what I understand). so here in lies my question. does it really matter where i go? i was thinking about going to white bear subaru because it is close to my house. i don't plan on using any oil change or car wash incentives because i don't want to put basic oil in my car. i will spend the money and do the oil myself (AMSoil only). also from what i understand there aren't any "touch free" carwashes that i can really bring my car to that are covered under the free carwash deal. So I will use my garden hose in the summer and wash your self places in the winter. so i don't really know why or what would make me want to go to a different dealership. any advice?

Yes, go to the dealerships which employ members here. Preferably buy one from a salesman who is a longtime member here or is recommended to you just so you can help him out with his commissions or any other bonus/metrics for cars sold. That way we're giving back to the dealerships/members who then help us out with dealership complaints/inquiries later on in the life of your car.

Agreed, this would be great. I was actually directed to this forum from a member who works at WB subaru. Anyone know anyone who is a member that works @ WB?

ok so follow up question. if i need "subaru" work done on something that is an issue with warranty i can still take it to any subaru?

ex. if i buy from WB but want it fixed @ morries that isn't a problem for warranty issues.

    correct?

Correct. But sometimes dealerships will be more picky about it if you bought it at a different dealership depending on what the damage is.

    cool thanks.

So support current members is a good reason to go somewhere like Morries.... anything else that would make a difference?

+1. Scott's "good people". And the monkeys in the parts dept at Mtka are OK, too. Just be careful not to feed them after midnight.

Ok, the state is now a no haggle state. That means any car on the lot, the dealership can't change the price. Now if the dealership needs to get the car to it (new order or transfer), they can wiggle on the price a bit. If it was me, I would go find your best price, then go talk to Scott at tonka. Make sure you talk to Scott before you do anything like place a order or put money down. Also make sure you tell him you are part of MNSubaru.

+5 for Scott Putnam for purchasing the car.

As for service, since Morrie's includes the free oil changes anyway, you can always carry in your Amsoil and have them change it. I've used White Bear for service on my last 3 cars simply because they are closest to me, no complaints.

thanks man. the issue is the program that i go through gets dealer invoice and i don't think anyone is going to go lower than that with a factory ordered car. if i was going for something on the lot it wouldn't be an issue.

I used a similar program (international mountain bike association) when I bought my 2004 WRX from Scott Putman. At the time, he was working for Luther Subaru in Bloomington. The discount program worked well and, to the best of my knowledge, there were no drawbacks. Have fun with your new Subaru!

I sold cars for a few years..(not subaru's) and from my past if you are going to order, and you get dealer invoice, your chances of "wiggle" room are 0. Now I sold cars about 3 years ago, so with new car sales falling like rocks that may have changed, If your working a trade into the deal, that is where the wiggle room will be. No matter how much cash down you put will not sway them to lower the price. Good Luck and enjoy!!!

See, you are not getting the new game. If the car is on the lot, the dealership can not budge on price. It is a state law, what is marked on the car is the price.

If you want to order a car, technically they are not supposed to alter the price, but they can.

Again, you go find your best price, then you go talk to Scott.

I just jumped through all these loops 3 months ago. And don't worry about invoice price, just go talk to Scott before you put money down anywhere else.

AFAIK, that only applies to dealers that have defined themselves as "no-haggle" dealers. (ie, Walser, and now Morrie's.) If the dealer does not advertise themselves as "no-haggle" (Luther) it is business as usual.

I was told that the state of MN is a no haggle state, so all the dealerships are that way. I know even a friend of mine was looking for Chev trucks and he had the same price everywhere he went.

Either way, get your best price, then go talk to Scott.

Do you guys do the one price thing, or is negotiation still possible at Luther?

He already has a guaranty great deal through the VIP program he has. Luther has not yet gone to one price just yet but they are thinking of making this move.

Since the other big dealers already are one-price, it might be more competitive to not switch... you guys could say "We'll beat their price by $500/$1000/whatever" while the other guys can't move since they are required to stay at their advertised price.

no sweat man. i was just asking if it really mattered. i have no issues coming to you guys since you have been a big help to me. i just was under the assumption that you aren't who i am working with so you will not see any benefit from me coming to the dealership. but you did answer a lot of questions and already saved me some money off the bat. so that settles that... i guess i will not be going on over to Morrie's and i will be going to the "neighborhood" location.

Its not as simple as that. If you guys haven't notice there has always been a price war among Subaru' dealers with in the Twin cities. Walser brought the game to a whole new level. Luther could do what your saying but then there would be no or little profit margin to be had.
