Who all out there has had there wisdom teeth removed? did you have any bruising and horrible pain? did you face look like this? I feel like somthing went wrong.....
Oh yeah, my face was all puffed up. I had to eat soft food for a while. Stove top and overcooked mac and cheese were my staples. Be careful to not get any dry-sockets.
yep...its trauma on your face...bruising is normal like that and swelling all over is also normal. everyone is different..when I had them done I was at a party the next day with no pain and little swelling and bruising. it can take a week or two to get normal. just listen to piddster dont get dry sockets. when I had my surgery I was swollen for 6 weeks pretty bad then it took a whole year for it to complete go back to normal.
Swollen for a few days...i was a moron and had all four pulled at the same time. Not alot of crunchy food for about a week.
also, if you are truly worried, you can always go back to whoever performed the surgery and ask an RN/DA to look.
that looks uncomfortable! I didnt have any swelling. I got dry sockets on my lowers though. The bruising I've never seen before...
I had all 4 out... eating is hard, and if im not on pain killlers i cant close my mouth completely yeah im gonna call tomorrow if this get any worse O woke up this morning with the swollen bruised eye that i didn't have yesterday...
They sawed chunks of teeth out of your skull ... it's going to look really bad and hurt. Not so sure why your eye is swollen and bruised though I haven't had mine out yet and this scares me even more. (don't like dentists)
Me either, I am holding out until I absolutely must get them taken out, which I am thinking is never being that I am 26 and doing just fine.
Hmm I never really had that swollen face or the black and blue marks. I had 3 of my wisdom teeth pulled out but the 4th one never grew so I'm a lil lucky on that. Waking up after being put to sleep to have them removed and a couple hours later feeling all the pain really sucks but it went away after 4 days. And back to my normal eating routine.
my top ones were able to be pulled. my bottoms needed to be surgically removed.... went home slept for 2 hours till noon, got up was up till 1 and back at life the next day at 8. I generally don't wait till things are completely healed before I get bored and just do what I want.
all mine needed to be cut out, inlcluding a ****ed up tooth, so i had 5 done at once, FTL, no bruising though.
ouch, I had all mine removed last year and there was no pain at all. they had to cut 2 out and pull the other. I didnt even know they were out a day after.
Going to the dentist would suck for getting wisdom teeth removed. An oral surgeon can put you down. My top two had to be broken in half for removal. No dry sockets though.
I saw an oral surgeon, all of mine where impacted and needed to be cut out. when i was changing my gauz i found a shard of tooth that was really sharp and thin stuck to one of my back molars...
Had mine pulled two at a time, a couple of weeks apart. But mine were super easy, zero problems, and could have been done all at once just as easily.
I haven't a clue... i woke up this morning and it was all puffy and like that...maybe someone punched me in my sleep....:ugh: thats what i started this thread, i wanted to know if anyone else looked like i do after they got their teeths removed
Wow, I had nothing like that. I was back to normal the day after having all 4 pulled. Only took 1 vic just to see how it felt since I never had them before. Come to find out my body hates them and makes me nauseous. Just make sure you rinse them out after every meal and you should be fine. My mouth heals amazingly well so I never really took care of it as well as I should have but oh well.
Everybody is different. Some need surgery, some just need them pulled, some don't need them out at all. I was in the middle category. I showed up to the dentist having agreed to have it done only because everybody told me that they put you under for it. I discovered not only was I not going under but the dentist was going to have his resident do at least 2 of the 4 (he did 3). Turned out all right in the end. Took two 800mg ibuprofens when the novacaine started to wear off, took a nap and was fine when I woke up. I even ate sloppy joes for supper (which was a mistake, by the way, I had to do some careful cleaning after the fact). But I only say this because 12 years later I got talked into going to an SCA fight that a friend was big into and into trying a few bouts. Good fun. And I got owned pretty good, too. I came away with some pretty good bruises. A few days later the friend commented that I must bruise easy. "No way, I heal pretty fast." Turns out that I didn't heal so fast so much anymore. And pain killers work a lot better for me now, too. So, everyone is different, but everybody is subject to change, too. If I were you, I guess I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Annoyed, yes! I would probably give the office a call or stop by just to cover your bases, plus they can make any notes that they deem necessary in your file so future dental activity will have as little lasting affect as possible. As an example, my dental office knows that my body has (or at least used to have) a high tolerance for novacaine and they take it much slower when giving me the shots and that makes the process very notably less painful since the topical stuff doesn't really work at all. They might also be able to give you advice on the recovery and getting more comfortable. All in all, good luck and sorry that this has been a long, slow, painful ordeal. Get well soon, eh!
This may be a case of the dentist being pissed off at someone, and taking it out on his/her unconcious patient Haha, i kid. On another note, I was nothing like that. I had some swelling, but no brusing. I went to an oral surgeon, and I woke up part way through, and his whole hand was in my mouth. It was crazy. I could hear the roots popping and the pressure on my jaw, but no pain. I was out again in a matter of seconds, though.
good luck on your recovery. My face looked I got mugged by some "serial crusher" (Boondock Saints quote there) They prolly had to put pressure on your to leverage for the removal of a tooth. I'd only be worried about bruises or pain from the neck down.... then you know somthing is wrong.....
-With the alley-oop: -AND THE DUNK:laugh: Seriously though, I wouldn't worry too much yet, but it won't hurt to have the doctor look at it. It's what they're there for, after all. Still got my wisdom teeth in, but I don't feel any wiser...
had all 4 of mine done last fall & my face was all swollen. They put me out thought they had to use a chiesel and break my bottom 2 in half to get mine out, and make sure you wash your mouth regularly and use the little seringe to clean your sockets out.
I came to after my surgery cursing god and my mother and my father.... and they were are right there in the waiting room with me (God is everywhere),
I never did either. Its pretty easy to blow the blood clot out of the socket with them. Not all doctors use that method. Just rinse your mouth often, and softly.
I second this, if you spray the clot out, you will create n absess, and from what I hear... absesses hurt alot.
I had mine taken out recently too. All 4 at one time. The reason you have a black & blue under eye is due to the fact that your sinus cavity is directly above your upper wisdom teeth. That cavity has probably swelled up, and may have bled internally a tad bit, causing the bruise. If you are having sharp/shooting pain it may be due to an absess (infection) where the socket is. I would go back and have them look at it to see if it is infected. If so, they will probably give you clindamycin which will take care of it in like 2 days. And for those that got a syringe, the oral surgeon should have told you not to use it for at least a week after the surgery to greatly reduce the chance of removing the clot and getting a dry socket.
my dad's a dentist, and what you show is considered in the realm of normal too bad you weren't lucky like me and not needing any pain management and eating/chewing on food within 3 hours
I'm with Aegis. I had money set aside in my medical expense account for this for later this year, but mine aren't causing me any problems at 31. This just kinda puts me off, and I think I'll just get Lasik instead. Just opened my last set of contacts, and they should last for 2-3 months. Laser to the eye's > teeth sawed-out.
Most times if your tooth is all the way erupted (out), they won't have to break them to remove them. All but one of mine was fully erupted, so they didn't have to do much damage. The longer you wait though, the more dense your jaw bone gets, making the removal of the lowers more difficult.
I had all 4 of mine surgically removed a while back. Didn't get bruising but was definitely out of commission for a while between the pain and inability to eat, well, anything. Lived off smoothies and did nothing but play Diablo 2 for a week straight.
Yeah, I actually remember them saying that. But they are all broken through, albeit a little bit of swollen gums since it's so tough to floss them (very tight, and very large jaw). They said if I start flossing more often and whatnot, they could be fine. I say I'll just keep 'em until they start hurtin.
