well, travelling down foley in coon rapids, mr. idiot-old-person-in-a-minivan decided that he needed to make a left turn more than i needed to go straight. here's what happened...boohoo...
debating on whether the insurance is going to total it out or give me cash for it, according to him, it's still worth 16k...

yeah, it's pretty much up to the insurance company and what they decide to do to it. they should be getting an estimate in the next couple of days to determine if the frame's bent and what not. if they do decide to total it, don't know what i'm going to do. guess if the engine's fuxored, then it will be totalled. so, if that's the case, i'll be getting some nice ching for it back. but, like i said, it's all up to the insurance company, it's their money, not mine. either way, now i don't have to worry about the hail damage on the hood.
yeah, all parties involved are okay, just a little case of whiplash and a sore chest from the seatbelt. and my damn ears are finally subsiding from the ringing from the airbags going off. i pretty much ripped the pass side front wheel off of the minivan, just held on by the lower control arm. funny what 40 mph will do to a car. but, i'm safe, and just glad that i didn't have my 2.5 year old in the back.

your car is definitly totaled. mine had less damage during my accident and mine got totaled. i got 12.6k for it so you should be getting more than me being mine was a my01 RS.

i'm also surprised your car had alot more damage done to it than mine and mine was a 50-60mph head on collision. i had no whiplash, no nothing. just waked away cleaned from mine and of course with ringing ears from the air bags going off.

but anyhow, sucks to hear about your rex! hope all goes well....oh and tell us how much your insurance wants for it if you want to buy it back! swap time! =D

haha, my last car that i had totalled, i only would have got about 500 back if i wanted to keep it. hehe, i've never sold a car, i've always totalled them. guess i have bad luck with them, considering NONE of the accidents were considered my fault besides one (fell asleep behind the wheel while going 70 on my way back from the cities from camp ripley before going to bosnia).
can't really afford another car payment, considering on top of my monthly bills, i'm also paying into child support, so financing for an sti is pretty much out of the question.
gotta go to the police station today and pick up my accident report, and then wait for insurance to call and find out if the other company is going to pay for me to get a rental in the meantime, if they decide to work on it. don't know tho, considering my car was bleeding all of it's lovely emerald green lifeblood out, and they tried to get me to turn the engine over, and all i got was 2 very loud clunks each time i tried.
    damn my neck hurts today...

i bought the car after i got back from bosnia, about 2 years ago. it was my treat to myself, considering i didn't have anything to spend my money on when i was over there (we couldn't go out and party or drink). so i put like 8k down on the car, and financed the rest. so yeah, it's still pretty new to me.

You can get another 02 WRX if you end up with more than 15k. Really sucks what happened to your car though, I pray that never happens to mine...

If they do total it out, let me know where it ends up...
or if i was you i'd:
    1. Let them total it.
    2. buy it back.
    3. buy GC8 impreza
    4. Swap.
    5. ???
    6. Fun.

That's a pretty back wreck. Glad you are o.k. It may be better to get cash and buy another one as fixing this one might only lead to future alignment problems along with fitment issues and your future value will be crap with an accident on title.

I got my STI for only 23.5K That's only 7.5K more than what you may get for this one. That's a small loan. Of course there is taxes etc.

they pay the current value of the car, not the new list value.

otherwise people would start crashing older, crappier cars into walls and taking insurance checks for the like new value of the car and the auto insurance industry would promptly collapse.

dont let them try to start it, dont let them work on it....they are just trying to get out of cutting you a check...a car with that bad of a damage would never be the same even if they spent thousands fixing it...

here's mine....mine wasn't as bad as yours but it got totaled.

was declared dead on the scene at progressive claims dept. time of death, 1.45pm, today.
anyhoot, they cut me a check for the car, total was like 15.5k, but they also had to deduct prior damage to the car, i.e. 1300 in hail damage to the roof and trunk, (about 40-60 dents altogether), but charged me only 80% because of the depreciation value, and then 500 for the deductible. so, after everything, i'm going to have about 10k to spend on a car, pay my parents back about 2g for helping me with college, and another 2k for a safety net little cushion in my bank acct. altogether, they cut me a check for 14,675.20...not to bad for an almost 5 year old car.
so, i'm on the market, i'm going to look up some '00-01 rs', and see if i can get a good deal, then maybe mod it up a little bit. i'll keep all informed.
they also took my car seat and said when i get a new one, give them the bill. pretty good considering insurance companies are usually trying to lowball you. but, got the rear view mirror out, so if anyone needs one, i got the upgraded mirror/auto dimmer/compass. i couldn't take out the turbo timer, since the hood would not pop, and the air cleaner cover was also dented to hell. also couldn't get the damn jdm sti scoop off either.
-as for totalling out the car, i checked on that as well. 1. i don't have a place to store it. 2. they were only going to offer me 2500 for it.
figure if i get another subi, i'm going to have that plate be...

    SKUBI 2.
    lol

Why did they take out $500 for the deductible?!? By that logic, the accident was your fault?

no, the accident was NOT my fault. even in the police report, the officer said that the other driver failed to yield to me. i think it may fall under minnesota's modified "no fault" rule. i don't really care, i wasn't expecting to get that much for it in the first place. i think that they put the deductible on there, since it still is a "claim".

If the accident was not your fault, a good insurance company will submit your deductable to the other insurance company. My buddy totalled out his Maxima and they got him 80% of his deductable back. The report showed it was not his fault. I would check into that.

    Hmmmm.....

From my dealings with Progressive, they are a very fair company to work with (well, at least in the world of insurance companies, lol). I'm sure their justification of taking out his deductable was correct for the circumstances.

My guess would be that even though the other driver failed to yield, our friend here was the one who actually ran into the other car. Stupid no-fault laws. eek!

Call your agent and ask. He/She should be able to tell you. I know that because I chose to deal with my own insurance company with my wreck, I had to put my deductable up front, but since it wasn't my fault it will be refunded back to me when the other drivers insurance company pays mine back.

they don't give a crap about my swap. It provaly lowers the value of the car anyways on paper. If it were to be totaled, i'd be out of some serious cash.

I would have to get insurance that values the market value of the car, not the sticker price according to the VIN. Collectors car or race car insurance would do they job, which is what I am getting in 2 months.
