And it just felt right. I'm really looking for a nice year round driver that I can hopefully put a car seat in. In the past I've had a mustang cobra, an awd Talon, and now a mildly modified jeep. Looks like I'll be selling or trading the jeep soon. I've recently test driven a Mazdaspeed3, a G8 GT, an older LGT, an awd 300C, and the WRX just felt like best compromise between fun and practicality.

So, will it really only get 25 mpg on the highway??

I was looking at Morries, and had a good experience, but they'd have to dealer trade or order the one I really want. Is that worth it, or should I consider a diffent dealership, since I'll be ordering/dealer trading anyway??

Are any dealers better or worse when it comes to mods vs warranty??

    Thanks in advance...

You'll probably get lower mileage than that. LOL.

You should buy from Morries. Just order it and get what you want.

If you drive it really nice aka keep your foot out of it (cruise ctrl at or around 65 too) you should be able to get 27-28. At least I do (2010) City driving is what kills the mileage. Which one do you think felt fastest of the ones you test drove?

    eta:
At least thats what my average mpg readout says.

Haha, with NA cars, you can do things like headers, intake etc and actually get better mileage. I don't get the impression that it works that way with turbo cars.

I'm not sure on the speed. Obviously the wrx is faster than the LGT and the 300c. I think the mazdaspeed3 felt faster, but maybe that's just because it felt more chaotic? Im also pretty sure the g8 gt is faster, but it feels so different (v8 auto vs turbo 5-spd).

Anyway, we'll see. I've been without a car payment for 5 years, so this would be a change for me.

Mod for mod an MS3 is faster on the highway than a WRX.

A good tune can actually help mileage on a turbo car. As can a big turbo (because you're not in boost as often).

I'd consider it but yours is more expensive than the new base model ones I was looking at! I wish I could get leather and heated seats without the other options...

    Couple questions (for anyone):
It looks like the spt cat back is the only dealer approved/installed porere upgrade, but my research tells me the stock cat back is fine for power (do the downpipe first, for example), so the cat back is really just for sound, correct??

Second, when dealing with a "best price" dealer like Morries, can you make an offer, or do they just automatically tell you to GFY (which is understandable). I'd love to get like the cat back or something thrown in.

They are pretty locked in on those prices, there isn't much wiggle room. One thing with mine is that it will include winter wheels, clear bra and the SPT catback. Shoot me a PM, maybe we can figure something out :)

Also, the SPT is mostly a sound mod, but it's a good sound. Not too loud inside or outside.

I just drove to Chicago a couple weeks ago and according to the in car calculator I averaged 28 mpg. But I was making sure to take it easy and stay out of boost as best I could.

When I added a catless Downpipe and EBCS on pump gas I was getting 25mpg - 27mpg on a regular basis in my 09. I believe I was around 19psi on my tune. That is going from North St Paul to downtown MPLS for work 5 days a week, the cabin on weekends in the summer... afton to teach snowboarding in the winter.

    Currently getting around 14 - 15 on E85, but power > MPGs

xcluben, where you suggesting I buy from them just because I've already been there once, or are they better than others in town, say like Walser? Actually none of them are close to where I live (downtown saint Paul), so my decision where to show may come down to something small.

Does anyone know, when you order, can you mix and match more on options, or is it still just the whole premium and limited packages, take them or leave them?

And finally, does anyone know if the VIP I get from my IMBA membership works on WRXs?

    Thanks!

Morries is the best. That's why I recommended them. You can mix and match some things but the trim levels are pretty much set.

LGT's have much lower insurance premiums... We have a great reputation with Morrries MTKA & BP... Ask for Scott P in sales at MTKA... I heard St. Cloud Subaru is good too... they claim to beat local dealers pricing.

Nice. I see there are some up in St. Cloud. I'm probably most interested in the dark gray, which it looks like they have or are getting at MTKa. Looks like they have limited and premium though, and I was hoping for base (its hard paying for options you dont want) We'll see what they actually want to sell them for!

There's also a WRB in eau Claire that I'd consider.

I'm surprised they let you test drive a WRX? And, id suggest buying a car that you know or a new car. I've had some major issues buying from private sales.

I was not amused by my experience with St. Cloud when I was in the market for an LGT.

High pressure hard sale approach + evasive regarding documentation + assumption that I was boy racer because I initially inquired about an STi + "txt speak" in email correspondence = Are you f'n kidding me?

What I do with boys is none of a car salesman's business.

Seriously though, he had an 07 STi with something like 50k miles on the lot with a "ZOMG NEW ENGINE!" for 23k. He was super evasive about why it had a new engine and just kept repeating how I was getting a brand new engine therefore it was an awesome deal... never mind that it was ragged on hard enough to need a new engine in the first place. He kept evading requests for a carfax (which showed multiple owners and several suspicious repairs when I finally got him to send it to me) and documentation of the dealer-installed new engine. Every time I'd press him on it he'd basically say "NEW ENGINE, LOOK AT THE SHINY WING, ZOMTURBOZ! AWESOME AMIRITE?" Then he tried to do the hard sell when I wasn't interested in paying 23k for a questionable STi, effectively insulting me for either not being able to afford the car or not understanding what the car was.

Several weeks later he sends me an "r u still interested?" email, after I bought a brand new LGT off a different lot. I let him know that he was correct, I didn't know what that car was and it was out of my budget for a questionable vehicle so I bought a considerably more expensive brand new car elsewhere and am no longer interested in his services. I have no idea what his response was since I immediately unsubscribed from the email service he was using.

Shadiest experience I've personally had with a dealership yet.

I bought my car at Saint Cloud cause they were the only dealer that would actually give me the best price in the three state area plus rebate on top of the deal. I'am no boy racer but your get that any where you buy a WRX. The biggest reason I would recommend them is that they backed me when I got the dreaded spun barring on my moded car and worked with me through the SOA process along with the mods. Joe.S in service is a top notch guy along with the mechanic that work on my car. I think that is good as your going to get with any dealer. I 'am less than a mile from White Bear Lake Subaru but would never buy a car from them again. Shop around the Internet and wait for month end pricing and see who wants to sell a car the most. *************D

I sincerely hope my experience was a fluke and that dude is no longer with them. I figure car salesmen are in the same boat as IT "recruiters". When you find a good one it doesn't really matter what organization is employing them, you're going to walk away happy. The really good ones won't tolerate an environment so bad that they can't provide a reasonable quality service. If you find a bad one they're almost certainly going to make a hash of it regardless of how spectacular their resources are or how much leeway they have to make the magic happen.

1 thing id say is if you remember the guys name tell the owner joe he will make it right 1 way or another. But im glad you found a car your happy with. Just goes to show if a place doesnt treat its customers right they lose a sale or maybe more if that person speaks about his problem to others.

    But you'd still have a MS3.......

OP - call Scott Putnam at Morrie's and tell him MNSUBARU sent you.

No disrespect to other MN Subaru dealers, but I've purchased 3 WRXs from Scott ('02, '07, '12) and modified them all and never had issues on new car pricing or follow up warranty matters.

    Be safe out there.

I have been in contact with the dealership and the owner lately... I am positive the owners name is not Joe... Surly sounds like you got the bad end of the sales stick... I will have you speak with the owner during the: http://mnsubaru.com/threads/10-21-scoobies-4-boobies-event-cruise-and-raffle-st-clould-subaru.39551/... maybe he will hook you up with a free 20% off parts voutcher ;)

Joe Sybrant is the Service Manager up at St. Cloud IIRC and he's one of the best guys I worked for in the car business. I wouldn't hesitate to send anyone to him if they're in the area. Don and the crew at Minnetonka Subaru have been just as great, and I recommend them to anyone in this area.
