Dial-up is really sucks. So, I’m deciding on getting a fast internet connection. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what company is the best and at what speed?

    Get cable.

    /thread.

Seriously though, unless you have an absolute reason you need the guaranteed bandwidth of DSL, cable will give you better throughput and likely be cheaper.

    Well, Comcast sucks.

But the fact that I'm seeing 15Mbps down/3Mbps up now is pretty cool.

Not that I use it like I used to. Once Mpls has their wireless figured out for my neighborhood, there's a good chance I'll switch to that.

DSL sucks. Cable is very good (with the possible exception of torrents). I've had nothing with success with Comcast, but I know that is far from the consensus.

Of course, if you have fibre available where you are then there is nothing else worth getting. Since your side-bar info says St. Paul, though, I'm going to venture a guess that you do not have fibre available to you (it's available in a few select areas further north, but nothing in the cities that I'm aware of).

We have Mpls wireless in our neighborhood. Just an FYI - it sucks big time. Spotty, slow, and overpriced. Maybe if it was free for residents of Mpls it would be okay, but I could never condone paying for that.

Mediacom doesn't even get the vs channel. Their HD sux ballz so I wouldn't pay them a penny for service.

    Qwest is a nightmare

Comcast is crap too, too expensive.

It's in your best interest to go back to dial up AOL. ;)

I can say that I know quite a few people who have been Comcast techs and they are all cool.

Also, I've had 3 different techs come out and work on our totally bastardized setup ("Um hi Comcast .. yeah, so I cut the line running to one apartment, spliced into it, ran it up into my closet, hooked up a bunch of 24/7 servers on home service, serve out that internet wirelessly to everyone in the bldg for free, tapped off for the free cable TV as long as it was nearby, and now I get crappy signal that drops Inet all the time. Would you guys come out and go 25 feet up your 22 foot ladder to snip some wires our siding contractor fubar'd and re-run my technically illegal lines for free? No problem? Great! See you Saturday. lol)

    Visi
Unlike comcast, qwest or any of those other *******s they don't care what you're doing with it. Plus free static IP.

Yes, because you can't get a DSL modem from anyone else.

It took comcast 4 tries to get me a functional cable box.

They use the line to the CO but nothing else. That isn't where qwest's issues lie. Everything is is visi.

I'm pretty happy, no downtime in 2 years (when i started this line)

Ah - wasn't sure how tightly they were "partnered". Oftentimes those arrangements go the other way - the end user basically pays extra for a different name and the entire service gets pawned off on the bigger isp.
