ok, i added 10 and 6 like john suggested. the 3k hesitation is gone now in that light throttle area! thank you. here is a log of the light throttle pull. i'm interested in if you think it needs a little more.. also i did another fairly strong pull. please advise. edit, again, here is the html to clean things up. http://www.skiffcraft.com/disco/utecweb/logs/test1_08_26_04/STG1VA.htm
what to look for on the timing is watch what the stock ecu wants for timing and copy it. You 10% could go up to about 34-36 degrees and the 20% could go up to 30-31 degees. If you look at the 2 columns next to each other that will show you the trends that the ecu wants. Just make some notes on rpms and ecu timing and mod timing and make them match up. Russ
Looks good! You may still feel a transition at 4000+ RPMs, but I wouldn't worry about it. What Russ is saying is very valid. If you want to duplicate the ECU's advance in the 10%, though, in order to do the transition, you'll have to go out to at least the 30% to ramp down. One last thing, you're still not getting into the 100% load column. My guess is because you're boost isn't quite high enough. The max I'm seeing is 15.7 psi and I auume the map wants to see 16 psi. It _probably_ wouldn't hurt to up your boost values by 10-15 across the board so you can achieve that(if you want). One more thing, does your boost setting jive with your boost guage? The UTEC sometimes needs to be calibrated.
i'm seeing about 16 peak on the defi gauge. and russ, just so i'm understanding this correctly, i'm thick headed sometimes, and need to stop for air. you suggest i run a few stock pulls, and adjust the 10 and 20% load in my custom map to reflect similar timing.. yes? john yes, i was feeling a little burp just over 4k. on boost. i really don't want to play with it too much untill i can see my a/fr's.. but, i do run a ~94-95 octane blend at all times. would it be foolhardy to assume that 10 points would be fine so long as i'm not seeing any knock events? or should i just be happy with 15psi, and wait for the tuna? i'm leaning toward wait. thanks again for all the help guys. i'm buying next time we are out.
I think you would be ok kicking it up 10-15 on the boost map. Kick it up until you see ~16.2-4 or so. Don't get greedy, only up it until you see the numbers you want and lower it down if you overshoot. Russ and I have slightly different theorys on tuning. I feel you can start your transition right away and made suggestions as such. I think you are where you want to be, but trying different things is good too. Just save your maps before you try something else.
john yes, i'm saving all maps and logs, and cataloging them along with a little breif explanation of what i'm doing. sort of a noob's daily journal of what i'm doing. i will bump boost up by 5 and see what i hit on the way home tonight. tomarrow, i may do some more stock logs. to get a better idea of what the ecu likes for timing. side note, got my new laptop battery today, i think it's going to be awesome not having to use the stinking ac inverter all the time. /cheers
John & Disco I would leave your mapping psi where it is. Reason being if you were to creep or have a overboost situation you want the ability to jump to the 100% column. This will give you some protection. My car runs in the 80% column most all the time with a couple of hits here and there in the 90% column. Also Disco a change of 5 in the boost map will change little. Most of us use minimum changes on 10. Also if need be you can get in touch with me and we can run the delta dash on your car and see your AFR's in closed loop if you like. M
Ya, my 100% column is good for 24-25psi, and I only run 21-22 psi. That is done for boost spikes and creep and such. What does txs recomend for boost on the sti?? I would start there and fill in the rest. If the sti utec maps are anything liek the wrx utec maps, do worry about being to lean. When I was doing Steve's car, he was about 9.8-10 afr on the txs stg2 map. I will be gone this next weekend (labor day), but I should be around the next couple ofter that, if you want we can stick the wbo2 in there and see what you are running. Russ
that would be great. i was discouraged this weekend. got some silly hesitation at 3k again. and couldnt get it on a log... seemed to only happen when i wasnt paying attention. i'm gona try again tomarrow.
